En este tercer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, la iglesia nos alienta a acercarnos a Cristo, la verdadera luz. Esto es para que la realidad de nuestra vida podría ser plenamente manifestada. Esta es también, para que las sombras que dominan nuestras vidas pueden disminuir. Por ello, la iglesia, nos exalta a no contentarnos con la luz física. Más bien, debemos buscar y andar en la luz de Dios, la buena noticia. Esta es la luz que nos atrae a Cristo.

 En el estudio de la formación de las sombras en la óptica física, es conocido que a medida que un objeto se aproxima a la luz, su sombra disminuye y se vuelve real. Mientras que, cuanto más lejos se mueve de la luz, más su sombra crece larga. La buena noticia tiene el potencial para reducir nuestra sombra. Esta luz es, “Cristo que vive en nosotros.” (Gal 2, 20). Él es la alegría de nuestra salvación.

En la primera lectura, Isaías eleva nuestra esperanza. Esta esperanza proviene del hecho de que Dios ha manifestado su luz sobre nosotros. Es un mensaje de liberación de la potestad de las tinieblas, que antes nos molestaron. Isaías declara: “El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz; habitaban tierras de sombras, y una gran luz brillo.” La luz que es el mismo Dios es capaz de lograr tantos cambios imposibles en nuestras vidas. Sin embargo, debemos presentarnos delante de él. La luz de Dios rompe nuestro yugo. Nos muestra el camino. Borra nuestras dudas y temores, y aumenta nuestra confianza en Dios y en nosotros mismos.

En la segunda lectura, san Pablo expresó su decepción por la comunidad de Corintio. Él reprendió a ellos por su mal comportamiento. Esto es porque, todavía viven en la sombra de las tinieblas y la ignorancia. Para Pablo, la pelea y la división entre ellos no es una buena señal de que viven en la luz de Cristo. Por lo tanto, denunció su modo de vida.

Pablo llama la atención sobre la esencia de la buena noticia. Es decir, despojarse de las sombras de la tiniebla y la ignorancia. Mayoría de las veces, nos peleamos por nada, incluso en la casa de Dios. Este fue el problema de esta comunidad Corinto. Cuando actuamos de esta manera, traicionamos la buena noticia. También, nos alejamos de la luz de Cristo. Ninguna comunidad cristiana buena recibe la luz y sigue siendo el mismo.

En el Evangelio, la profecía de Isaías se cumplió a través de la acción de Cristo. Su presencia hizo una gran diferencia en la vida de la gente de Cafarnaúm como los de los pueblos vecinos de Zebulón y Neftalí. Su luz era sentida fuertemente porque trajo sanidad y liberación. Jesús demostró que él es su: “Bálsamo de Gilead” (Jer. 8, 22). Así que, como las réplicas de la luz de Dios, nuestra presencia debe hacer una diferencia positiva dondequiera que estemos. Debe disipar la oscuridad en la vida de las personas. ¿Realmente estamos haciendo alguna diferencia?

Finalmente, hoy la Iglesia nos llama a acercarnos a Cristo, que dice: “Yo soy la luz del mundo. El que me sigue no andará en las tinieblas”(Jn 8, 12). Donde hay la luz de Dios, la oscuridad y las peleas desaparecen. También, temor, ira, codicia, traición, mentira, engaño, odio, división y otros vicios desesperarán. Donde brilla la luz de la buena noticia, “a los que vivían en la tiniebla verán una gran luz”. Por lo tanto, si seguimos y acercamos a Cristo, la luz, entonces: “En su luz, nos veremos la luz” (Sal. 36, 9).

On this 3^rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, the church urges us to draw closer to Christ, the light. This is so that the reality of our life might become fully manifested. This is also so that the shadows that dominate our lives might diminish. Therefore, the church exalts us not to be contented with the physical lights. Instead, we should seek and walk in the light of God, the good news. This is the light that draws us to Christ.

In the study of the formation of shadows in optical physics, it is known that as an object draws closer to light, its shadow diminishes and becomes real. Whereas the farther away it moves from light, the longer its shadow becomes. The good news has the potential to cast off our shadows. It is “Christ who lives in us.” (Gal 2, 20). He is the joy of our salvation.

In the first reading, Isaiah raises our hope. This hope comes from the fact that God has manifested his light on us. It is a message of deliverance from the power of darkness that formerly harassed us. Isaiah declares: “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; on those who live in the land of deep shadow, a light has shown.” The light, God himself, can achieve many impossible changes in our lives. However, we have to present ourselves before it. God’s light breaks our yoke and shows us the way. It clears our doubts and fears and increases our confidence in God and ourselves.

In the second reading, Paul expressed his disappointment over the Corinthian community. He rebuked them for their bad behavior. This is because they still lived in the shadow of darkness and ignorance. For Paul, their quarrel and division are not a good sign that they live in the light of Christ. Hence, he denounced their way of life.

Paul draws our attention to the very essence of the good news. That is, casting off the shadows of darkness and ignorance. We often quarrel over nothing, even in the house of God. This was the problem of this Corinthian community. When we act this way, we betray the good news. We also drift away from the light of Christ. No good Christian community receives the light and remains the same.

Today’s gospel fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah through the action of Christ. His presence made a tremendous difference in the lives of the inhabitance of Capernaum and those of the neighboring towns of Zebulon and Naphtali. His light was strongly felt because it brought healing and deliverance. He was their “balm of Gilead” (Jer. 8, 22). So, as replicas of God’s light, our presence must make a positive difference wherever we are. It must dispel the darkness in people’s lives. Are we making any difference?

Finally, today the Church beckons us to come closer to Christ, who says: “I am the light of the world. The man who follows me will not walk in darkness” (Jn 8, 12). Wherever there is the light of God, darkness and quarrels disappear. Also, despair, fear, anger, greed, betrayal, lying, cheating, lust, and all other vices disappear. Wherever the light of the good news shines, “the people who lived in darkness see a great light.” Therefore, if we follow, and come closer to Christ, the light, then: “In His light, we shall see the light” (Ps. 36, 9).

Hoy es el segundo domingo del tiempo ordinario, año A. Este domingo, la Iglesia nos presenta a través de la visión profética de Isaías y Juan el Bautista, el: “Agnus Dei qui tollit peccata mundi (cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo).” Una lección muy notable que la iglesia quiere nos aprendemos de las lecturas y la reflexión de este domingo es que, el cordero de Dios fue más que un “mero siervo.” Él es un hijo obediente, que cumplió la voluntad de su padre.

En la primera lectura de Isaías, Dios honró a su siervo y selló este honor con una promesa y misión: “Voy a hacer le una luz a las naciones.” El propósito de esta promesa es: “Para que mi salvación llegue hasta los confines de la tierra!” Hay tres supuestos básicos acerca de esta promesa y misión de Dios a su siervo. La primera es que, su servidor es digno de confianza. En segundo lugar, él ha aceptado el mensaje y la salvación de Dios. En tercer lugar, este siervo no mantendrá esta salvación a sí mismo. Más bien, él lo llevará a los demás.

En la segunda lectura, Pablo afirma su llamado a ser apóstol. Igualmente demuestra que obedientemente hizo la voluntad de Dios. También, destaca otro elemento muy importante de hacer la voluntad de Dios. Es decir, vivir una vida santa. Una de las mayores misiones confiadas a nosotros en la tierra es vivir una vida santa. Al hacerlo, hablamos más volúmenes que estamos llamados a evangelizar. Es la voluntad de Dios para que seamos santos porque él nos dice: “Sean santos, porque, Yo el Señor su Dios soy santo” (1Pt 1, 13-16).

 En el Evangelio de hoy, San Juan Bautista identifica y presenta vívidamente el salvador al mundo. Por este acto, Juan ha completado su misión y la voluntad de Dios. Es por ello que él fue llamado a ser un profeta. Él obedientemente ha cumplido a su misión. Por lo tanto, Juan es un perfecto ejemplo para nosotros de cómo debemos cumplir nuestra misión y la voluntad de Dios para nosotros. Todos tenemos que hacer es aceptarla, y el Espíritu Santo confirmará nuestros esfuerzos.

Cuando Jesús apareció, ¿por qué la gente no lo reconoció, eran físicamente ciegos? ¡No! Por el contrario, sufrieron de “ceguera espiritual”. Esto les impedía reconocer al Salvador que se han esperado tanto tiempo para recibir. Llevó la combinación de un profeta ungido y el testimonio del Espíritu Santo para identificar a Jesús. La única diferencia que la presencia de Jesucristo hará en la vida de los ciegos espiritualmente es nuestro testimonio. Por lo tanto, es nuestra misión presentar Cristo a otros como Juan lo hizo: “Este es el cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo”. Tanto Cristo como Juan el Bautista han cumplido sus funciones en cuanto se refiere a hacer la voluntad de Dios. Por lo tanto, es nuestro deber continuar esa misma misión.

Por último, para que hagamos la voluntad de Dios perfectamente, tenemos que estar en sintonía con el Espíritu Santo. Dios nos dará la gracia que necesitamos para hacer su voluntad. El Espíritu Santo proporcionará el poder y la fuerza que necesitamos para cumplir a nuestra misión. Si permanecemos dóciles al Espíritu Santo como Juan el Bautista, él nos mostrará todo lo que necesitamos saber. Él nos enseñará la mejor manera de llevar a cabo nuestra misión. Hermanos, digamos con el salmista: “Aquí estoy Señor, para hacer tu voluntad”.

Today is the second Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A. On this Sunday, the Church presents to us through the prophetic insights of Isaiah and John the Baptist the “Agnus Dei, qui tollit peccata mundi (Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world).” One very remarkable lesson that the Church wants us to learn from this Sunday’s readings and reflection is that the Lamb of God was more than a “mere servant.” He is a son who obediently fulfilled the will of the Father.

In the first reading from Isaiah, God honored his servant and sealed this honor with a promise and mission: “I will make you a light to the nations.” The purpose of this promise is: “So that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth!” There are three basic suppositions about this promise and mission of God to his servant. The first is that His servant is a trusted one. Second, the servant accepted the message. Third, he will not keep this salvation to himself. Instead, he will take it to others.

In the second reading, Paul affirms his call to be an apostle. He equally proves that he obediently did God’s will. Also, he highlights another vital element of doing God’s will. That is, living a saintly life. One of our greatest missions on earth is to live holy lives. By so doing, we speak more volumes to those we try to evangelize. It is the will of God for us to be holy because he says to us: “Be Holy for I the Lord your God am holy” (1Pet 1, 13-16).

In today’s gospel, John the Baptist identifies and vividly presents the Saviour to the world. By this act, John has completed his mission and the will of God. It was for this reason that he was called to be a prophet. He has obediently accomplished his mission. Therefore, John is a perfect example of how we ought to approach our call and the will of God for us. All we need to do is to accept it, and the Holy Spirit will confirm our efforts.

When Jesus appeared, why did people not recognize him? Were they physically blind? No! Instead, they suffered from “spiritual blindness.” This prevented them from recognizing the Saviour they had waited so long to receive. It took the combination of an anointed prophet and the testimony of the Holy Spirit to identify him. The only difference that the presence of Jesus Christ will make in the life of the spiritually blind is our testimonies. Hence it is our mission to present Christ to others as John did: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Both Christ and John the Baptist have played their roles as far as doing the will of God is concerned. So, we have to continue that same mission.

Finally, to do God’s will perfectly, we must be in tune with the Holy Spirit. God will supply the grace that we need to do his will. The Holy Spirit will give us the power and strength we need to fulfill our mission. If we remain docile to the Holy Spirit as John the Baptist was, he will reveal all we need to know. He will teach us the best way to carry out the mission. So, let us say with the psalmist: “Here I am, Lord! I come to do your Will.”

Today is the celebration of the Lord’s Baptism. It marks the end of the Christmas season, Year A. Providentially, the Lord’s Baptism comes at the beginning of the year. It celebrates God’s gratuitous call to us to belong to his flock. It is a way of reminding us of who we are. That is members of God’s great family through our baptism in Christ.

According to Catholic Catechism, “Baptism cleans us from Original Sin, and makes us children of God (CCC 1213).” Therefore, today, we must reflect on our baptism. This is mainly on how faithful we have kept our baptismal vows. Are we still saying, “I do” to questions like: “Do you reject Satan? Do you reject sin? Do you believe in one God and one Holy Catholic Church? Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God? How faithful have we been to these vows?

Our first reading from Isaiah is a prophecy about the Messiah. This was fulfilled in the gospel of today during Jesus’ baptism. The Spirit of God rested on Him and bore testimony that he is the son of God. In this reading, we see the Trinitarian God united in action. God the Father spoke thus: “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” The Holy Spirit bore witness to this by resting upon the son as a dove. They worked together to initiate the redemption of humanity through the water of baptism.

In our second reading, God extended His grace of redemption to Cornelius and his entire household as he did to us through the same water of baptism. Surprised about the love and mercy of God, Peter testified: “The truth I have now come to realize is that God has no favorites, but anyone of any nationality who fears God is acceptable to him.” This shows that the water of baptism does not segregate. It is for all who are willing to pass through it.

In today’s gospel, although Jesus is greater than John the Baptist, He allowed John to baptize Him. The most important lesson here is that Jesus tried to underscore the importance of baptism to our redemption and life as Christians. It is not a “mere sign.” Instead, it is a sacrament that leaves an indelible mark on the receiver. This is the sign or mark which God sees and testifies: “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased!”

By receiving the baptism of the Baptist, Christ manifested his full humanity. In order words, he shows us to what extent he fully identifies with us. Ordinarily, baptism was unnecessary for Jesus because “he was like us in all things, except sin” (Heb 4, 15). He was not affected in any way by Original Sin. However, as he insisted, his baptism was “to fulfill all that righteousness demands.” It is a sign that Christ was ready to go through any ordeal for our salvation. He was to seal with his blood on the cross, which he initiated through the water of baptism today. Through his baptism, he sanctified the water of our baptism.

Therefore, today the church calls us to renew our baptismal vows to God. This is important so that God may continue to say of us this year: “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”

Hoy es la fiesta del bautismo del Señor. Igualmente marca el final de la temporada de Navidad, año A. El Bautismo del Señor providencialmente se encuentra al principio del año. Celebra la llamada gratuita de Dios a nosotros de pertenecer a su rebaño. Es una manera de recordarnos quienes somos. Es decir, los miembros de la gran familia de Dios, a través de nuestro bautismo en Cristo.

Según el Catecismo Católico, “el bautismo nos limpia del pecado Original y nos hace hijos de Dios (CCC 1213).” Por lo tanto, hoy en día es muy importante reflexionar sobre nuestro propio bautismo. Esto es, sobre todo, cuán fiel hemos de mantener nuestros votos bautismales. Estamos todavía diciendo, “Sí” a preguntas como: “¿rechazas a Satanás? ¿Rechazas el pecado? ¿Crees en un Dios y una Santa Iglesia Católica? ¿Crees en Jesucristo el unigénito Hijo de Dios?” ¿Cuán fieles hemos sido a estos votos?

Nuestra primera lectura de Isaías es una profecía acerca del Mesías que va a venir. Esto se cumplió en el Evangelio de hoy durante el bautismo de Jesús. El espíritu de Dios reposó sobre Él y dio testimonio de que Él es el hijo de Dios. En esta lectura, vemos el Dios Trinitario unido en acción. Dios el padre habló así: “Este es mi hijo amado en quien me complazco.” El Espíritu Santo dio testimonio de esto, descendiendo sobre el hijo como una paloma. Trabajaron juntos para realizar la redención de la humanidad a través del agua del bautismo.

En nuestra segunda lectura, Dios extendió su gracia de la redención a Cornelio y su casa entera como lo hizo con nosotros a través de la misma agua del bautismo. Sorprendido sobre el amor y la misericordia de Dios, Pedro declaró: “La verdad que ahora me he dado cuenta es que Dios no tiene favoritos, pero cualquier persona de cualquier nacionalidad que teme a Dios es aceptable a Él.” Esto demuestra que el agua del bautismo no segrega. Es para todos los que están dispuestos a pasar a través de ella.

En el Evangelio de hoy, aunque Jesús era mayor que Juan el Bautista, Él permitió que Juan lo bautizara. La lección más importante aquí es que Jesús trató de subrayar la importancia del bautismo para nuestra redención y vida como cristianos. No es un “signo simple”. Por el contrario, es un sacramento que deja una huella imborrable en el receptor. Este es el signo o marca que Dios ve y testifica: “¡Este es mi hijo amado, en quien me complazco!”

Permitiendo a sí mismo al ser bautizado, Cristo manifiesta su plena humanidad. En palabras de orden, nos muestra cómo Jesús se identifica plenamente con nosotros. Ordinariamente, el bautismo no era necesario para Jesús porque, “Él era como nosotros en todo, excepto el pecado” (Heb 4, 15). No fue afectado en ninguna manera por el pecado Original. Sin embargo, su bautismo como Él insistió era: “para cumplir con todo lo que la justicia exige.” Es un signo de que Cristo estaba listo para pasar a través de cualquier prueba por nuestra salvación. Lo que se va a sellar con su sangre en la Cruz, lo comienza a través del agua del bautismo. A través de su bautismo, Él santificó el agua de nuestro propio bautismo.

Por lo tanto, hoy la Iglesia nos llama a renovar nuestros votos bautismales a Dios. Esto es importante para que, en este año, Dios pueda seguir diciendo de nosotros: “Este es mi hijo amado en quien me complazco.”

Vivir el ejemplo de los Reyes Magos

Hoy celebramos la solemnidad de la Epifanía, y de manera muy especial el día de los tres reyes que llevaron a Jesús unos muy costosos y simbólicos regalos de oro, Mirra, y el incienso. El término Epifanía es de origen griego, epiphaninen. Es un verbo que significa “revelar”, o “manifestar”. Celebra las muchas maneras en que Jesús se ha revelado a sí mismo a nosotros y a nuestro mundo. Entre ellos se incluyen los tres eventos que reúnen a la luz su misión y divinidad: la visita de los tres reyes o magos (Mt 2, 10-12), el bautismo de Jesús (Mc 1, 9-11), y el milagro de Caná (Jn 2, 1-11).

Así pues, hoy, Dios se revela a nosotros, porque Él es bueno y amoroso. La luz que brilla sobre nosotros en el día de hoy es la luz de la vida, de la que nosotros mismos debemos obtener nuestra propia luz y reflejarla a los demás. Hoy, el Señor Jesucristo extiende y expande el horizonte de su amor a nosotros por no ser egoísta. Que permite iluminar la oscuridad de nuestras vidas.

La lección de todo esto es, que también tenemos que hacer nuestra vida mejor y permitir que la bondad fluya a través de nosotros para ayudar a los demás. Debemos iluminar nuestra luz para que otros puedan ver con ello, cómo Cristo ilumina nuestro camino y vida este Nuevo Año con su propia luz, la vida, su divina presencia.

El Evangelio de hoy es, sobre la visita de los tres reyes magos. Vinieron a adorar y ofrecer regalos al recién nacido Rey, Jesucristo. Este Evangelio está lleno de muchas lecciones para aprender. En primer lugar, los tres reyes magos vinieron a Cristo con un auténtico culto como el Rey de reyes. Por lo tanto, nuestra adoración debe ser sincera y de corazón al igual que el de los tres reyes magos. No debe ser como la propuesta de culto de Herodes que era falsa.

Así pues, hoy en día, Dios se revela a nosotros, porque Él es bueno y amoroso. Cada vez que se encuentren confundidos o llegando a una encrucijada de la vida, debemos buscar y esperar hasta que la estrella de Cristo aparezca y nos muestre el camino que debemos seguir. Esto es simplemente lo que nos puede hacer referencia como guía divina y el abogado en nuestras vidas. Hoy, por lo tanto, debemos pedirle a Dios que la iglesia rece: “Padre, guíanos con su luz. Ayúdanos a reconocer a Cristo en la Eucaristía y recibirlo con amor, porque Él es el Señor eternamente y para siempre.” ¡Amén!

Today we celebrate the solemnity of Epiphany. The term Epiphany is of Greek origin, “Epiphaninen.” It is a verb that means “to reveal” or “to manifest.” It celebrates the many ways through which Jesus has revealed himself to us and our world. These include the three events that bring to light his mission and divinity: the visitation of the three kings or Magi (Mt 2, 10-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mk 1, 9-11), and the miracle at Cana (Jn 2, 1-11).

So today, God reveals himself to us because he is good and loving. The light that shines forth upon us today is the light of life from which we must get our light and reflect it unto others. Today, the Lord Jesus Christ extends and expands the horizon of his love to us by not being selfish. He allows himself to illuminate the darkness of our lives.

The lesson we can learn from this is simple. We must also make our lives better by letting the goodness that flows from us help others. We must let our light shine so that others can see with it as Christ illuminates our way and life this New Year with his light, life, divine presence, and counsel.

The gospel of today, from Matthew, as we have seen in the drama presented to us by our youths and children, is about the visitation of the three wise kings. They came to adore and offer gifts to the newborn king, Jesus Christ. This gospel (and drama) is full of many lessons for us to learn. First, the three kings came to offer Christ genuine worship as the King of kings. Therefore, our worship must be sincere and from our hearts, like that of the three wise Kings. It must not be like the proposed worship of Herod, which was false.

Second, we must be ready to offer Jesus something. We must not appear before the Lord empty-handed. So, we must ask ourselves today, what do I offer the Lord for his goodness to me? The only gift we must offer God for his goodness to us is ourselves, the gift of a good life, the gift of love, the gift of obedience, the gift of humility, the gift of peace to our families and world, and the gift of sacrifice for one another. Also, we must learn to be generous to others as the three wise kings did to Jesus.

As you expect gifts from your parents today, children try to be generous to others too, especially towards your parents. Parents, let us also be charitable towards our children today by giving them gifts as the wise kings gave to Jesus.

Third, we must learn from the wise kings that we must continue to follow the star and light that Christ shows us. That is, we must not allow ourselves to be deceived or distracted on our journey by Herod. Trusting that God will not mislead or misguide us, we must continue to look out for his star and light in our lives and along the part of our journey to eternity.

Any time we are confused or come to the crossroads of life, we must seek and wait until the star of Christ appears to show us the way we must proceed. This is what we may refer to as divine guidance and counsel in our lives. Therefore, we must ask God as the church prays, Father, guide us with your light. Help us to recognize Christ in the Eucharist and welcome him with love, for he is Lord forever and ever. Amen!

Hoy es el segundo domingo de Navidad. Este domingo, continuamos regocijándonos en el nacimiento de Cristo nuestro rey. Seguimos saludando la Palabra hecha carne y la sabiduría de Dios que disipa nuestra oscuridad e ilumina nuestras vidas. Hoy, la Iglesia nos invita a reflexionar sobre la importancia del nacimiento y de la venida de Cristo.

Hay una relación muy fuerte entre la sabiduría y la luz. De hecho, son sinónimos el uno al otro. Al contrario, la luz o la sabiduría y la oscuridad son opuestos. La luz es siempre contra la oscuridad y la disipa. El libro de la sabiduría se dirige a Dios como el que, “hizo todas las cosas por su palabra.” Es decir, la “Palabra” es el poder eterno, creativo e iluminador de Dios (Sab 9:1).

Proverbios escribe igualmente: “A través de la sabiduría, Dios creó la tierra” (Pr 3:19). “luz”, “palabra” y “sabiduría” se ven como una y la misma. Esto es lo que ellos logran: “mientras que el apacible silencio envolvía todo, tu palabra todopoderosa saltó del cielo, en medio de la tierra que estaba condenada…” (Sab18, 14-16).

Esto es lo que el nacimiento de Cristo hizo y logró para nosotros esta temporada. Como la sabiduría de Dios, Cristo vino a alumbrar la ignorancia, revelando cosas ocultas por los siglos. Como sabiduría, se ilumina los ojos de nuestra mente para que podamos apreciar a Dios (Ef 18). Como la luz, ilumina nuestro camina anda con nosotros. Por lo tanto, el salmista dice: “Tu palabra es una lámpara para mis pies y una guía para mi sendero…” (Sal 119, 105).

En nuestra segunda lectura, Pablo continúa agradeciendo y bendiciendo a Dios, “quien nos ha bendecido con todas las bendiciones espirituales del cielo en Cristo.” Esta bendición espiritual es el mismo Jesucristo, la sabiduría de Dios que está con nosotros para disipar toda ignorancia e iluminar nuestras vidas. Además, Pablo nos recuerda que Dios nos escogió en Cristo para que pudiéramos ser santos e inmaculados.

Así que, a medida que continuemos regocijándose esta temporada, déjenos saber que el nacimiento de Cristo selló nuestra propia adopción y abrió una puerta al corazón de Dios para todos nosotros. Por lo tanto, como Pablo oró, “que el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo… te dé el espíritu de sabiduría y percepción de lo que se revela…” Entonces, acojamos la sabiduría en nuestras vidas como nuestra guía. Esto es porque sin sabiduría no podemos apreciar las maravillas que Dios ha hecho para nosotros esta temporada. Sin los ojos de nuestra mente abiertos por Dios, permaneceremos en la ignorancia perpetua.

Hoy como en el día de Navidad, nuestro evangelio comienza con una descripción del “Logos” o Palabra de Dios. Juan nos recuerda que: “a través de su palabra se hizo los cielos”. Juan describe a Jesús como el poder creativo de Dios. Él es la vida y la luz, y la palabra que ha llegado a nosotros en forma humana.

Jesús se convirtió verdaderamente a un hombre, mientras permaneciendo verdaderamente Dios. Lo que él era (divino), permaneció, y lo que él no era (lo humano), se convirtió por el bien de nuestra salvación. Jesús es verdaderamente la sabiduría y la luz que disipa la oscuridad de nuestra vida y del mundo. Así que, con el salmista, seguimos diciendo: “Señor, tú eres mi luz y mi salvación… (Sal 127).

Today is the 2nd Sunday in the octave of Christmas. This Sunday, we continue to savor the joy of the newborn king. We continue to greet the Word made flesh that now dwells among us, and we continue to rejoice because, as the wisdom of God, he dispels our darkness and illuminates our lives. Today, the Church invites us to reflect on the importance of Christ’s coming to us.

There is a strong relationship between wisdom and light. They are synonymous with each other. On the contrary, light or wisdom and darkness are opposites. Light is always contra darkness and dispels it. The Book of Wisdom addresses God as the one who “made all things by your word; God’s eternal, creative, and illuminating power” (Wis 9:1). Proverbs equally writes: “The Lord by wisdom founded the earth” (Pr 3:19). “Light,” “Word,” and “Wisdom” are seen as the same. This is what they achieve: “For while gentle silence enveloped all thing, your all-powerful Word leaped from heaven, into the midst of the land that was doomed…” (Wis 18, 14-16).

In our second reading today, Paul continues to thank and bless God, “who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings of heaven in Christ.” This spiritual blessing is Jesus Christ himself, the Wisdom of God, who is with us to dispel all ignorance and illuminate our dark spots. Also, Paul reminds us that we are those chosen and favored by God. This is not only to be holy and spotless but also for adoption as fellow brethren of Christ.

So, as we continue to rejoice this season, let us know that Christ’s birth sealed our adoption and opened a door for all of us into God’s heart. Therefore, as Paul prayed, “May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ… give you the spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed.” Let us welcome wisdom into our lives as our guide. Without wisdom, we cannot appreciate what wonders God has worked for us this season. Without the eyes of our mind being opened by the “Ancient of Days” himself, we will remain in perpetual ignorance and our minds always clogged with wickedness.

Today as was on Christmas day, our gospel kicks off with a description of God’s “Logos” or Word. John reminds us of the following: “Through his Word, the heavens were made.” John describes Jesus as God’s creative, life, and light-giving Word that has come to us in human form. Indeed, Jesus is the Wisdom and Power of God, which created and sustains the world. Therefore, to save us, He assumed our nature. Jesus became man while remaining truly God. What he was (Divine), he remained, and what he was not (human nature), he has assumed for the sake of our salvation.

The gospel simply teaches us that Mary fulfilled her role as a Mother toward her son. She conceived and nurtured him with love and tenderness. She equally accompanied him through every step and stage of his life even till his death on the cross. In other words, not only did she give birth to Jesus, Mary helped Him to accomplish God’s plan for humanity. Through this, she presents herself as the epitome and model of good motherhood.

So, as we continue our walk with God this year, let us constantly ask for the intercession Mary, Mother of God: Oh, Holy Mother of God, despise not our prayers in our necessities, but deliver us from all dangers, Oh glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
