Today, the first Sunday of Christmas, the Church celebrates the Holy Family of Nazareth: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. We live in a time when the family institution is under a severe threat. As an institution that is the nucleus of every human society, the family has suffered dramatically in our time. Consequently, society at large is suffering too. So, the church presents us with the ideal model of what a family should be.

All the readings of this Sunday have carefully selected instructions about an ideal family and the duties of each member in order to maintain the sanctity of the family. The first reading is from Sir 3: 2-6. 12-14, in a nutshell, speaks of the need for children to be responsible and obedient to their parents: Hence: “He who honors his mother is like someone amassing a fortune.

Whoever respects his father will be happy with children of his own.” In other words, in an ideal family, it is the role of children to make their parents happy. When they do, definitely a blessing follows them as Paul admonishes in Eph 6, 1-2.

In the second reading, Paul outlined the qualities and virtues of an ideal Christian family: “Clothed yourselves in sincere compassion, kindness and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another; forgive each other as soon as a quarrel begins.” In a Christian family, each member knows his duty and responsibility.

Suppose each carries out their duty well; the unity and love of the family blossom. If the husband loves his wife and children by caring and providing for them, he wins their admiration. If the mother respects the father and nurtures her children well, things will go well.  If children are obedient to their parents, the family will prosper.

In today’s gospel, Luke informs us of how the parents of Jesus played their role in his upbringing. They continued to accompany him in love until he was mature enough to take care of himself. They provided for his needs and made sure that they brought him up in the faith. They did this by presenting him to God at the appropriate time.

When they thought he was lost, they looked for him. Indeed they played their role well as parents. Today’s gospel also reminds us that problems and obstacles are inevitable in a family. However, if the members remain united and courageous, they will overcome them all.

Today, Joseph played his part very well. So he is a role model for all fathers. He protected and provided for both the mother and the child. Mary also played her role very well by giving much maternal love that their son needed as he grew up. On his part, Jesus was not disobedient or problematic. He understood the difficulties that his family faced!

Therefore, a Christian family is a family modeled after the Holy Family of Nazareth. As ordained by God the Creator, a Christian family consists of the father, the mother, and theChildren. It is a family that sticks and prays and works together in harmony.

It is a family that accords respect and dignity to each member. An ideal family must have love, peace, and unity of purpose. This is the model of the family that the church presents to us and the entire world today. So, let us implore the Holy family to help us always live like them: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph; pray for us.

Hoy, en el primer domingo de la Navidad, la iglesia celebra a la Sagrada Familia de Nazaret: Jesús, María y José. Vivimos en un tiempo cuando la institución de la familia está bajo una grave amenaza. La familia como una institución que es el núcleo de cada sociedad humana ha sufrido enormemente en nuestro tiempo. Por consiguiente, la sociedad en libertad sufre también. Por tanto, la iglesia nos presenta el modelo ideal de cómo una familia debería ser.

Todas las lecturas de este domingo son instrucciones seleccionadas con mucho cuidado sobre una familia ideal, y los deberes de cada miembro para mantener la santidad de la familia. La primera lectura de Siracides 3: 2-6. 12-14, habla de la necesidad de que los niños sean responsables y obedientes a su padre: De ahí: “Que honrar a su madre parece a alguien que acumula una fortuna. Quienquiera que respete a su padre estará contento con sus propios hijos”. En otras palabras, en una familia ideal, es el papel de los hijos hacer su padre feliz. Cuando lo hacen, definitivamente una bendición les sigue como San Pablo dijo en Efesios 6, 1-2.

En la segunda lectura, Pablo enumeró las cualidades y las virtudes de una familia cristiana ideal: “… “Como elegidos de Dios, sus santos y amados, revístanse de sentimientos de profunda compasión. Practiquen la benevolencia, la humildad, la dulzura, la paciencia. Sopórtense los unos a los otros, y perdónense mutuamente siempre que alguien tenga motivo de queja contra otro.

El Señor los ha perdonado: hagan ustedes lo mismo.” En una familia cristiana, cada miembro sabe su responsabilidad. Si cada uno realiza su deber bien, la unidad y amor de la familia florece. Si el padre ama a su esposa e hijos preocupándose y asegurándolos, gana su favor y admiración. Si la madre respeta su esposo y crea a sus hijos bien, las cosas irán bien. Finalmente, si los hijos son obedientes a sus padres, la familia prosperará.

En el evangelio de hoy, Lucas nos informa de cómo los padres de Jesús desempeñaron su papel en su educación. Siguieron acompañándole con amor hasta que fuera bastante maduro para cuidarse. Aseguraron sus necesidades y se aseguraron de que le criaron en la fe. Hicieron esto presentándole a Dios en el momento oportuno.

Cuando creían que fue perdido, le buscaron. En efecto, desempeñaron su papel bien como padres. El evangelio de hoy también nos recuerda que los problemas y los obstáculos son inevitables en la familia. Sin embargo, si los miembros permanecen unidos y valerosos vencerán.

José, jugó su papel muy bien. Por tanto, él es un modelo a imitar para todos los padres. Protegió y cuidó tanto a la madre como al niño. María también desempeñó su papel muy bien proporcionando mucho amor maternal que su hijo necesitó cuando creció. En su parte, Jesús no era desobediente o problemático. ¡Entendió las dificultades de las cuales su familia afrontó! Los padres deben cumplir con la expectativa; deben escuchar a Dios y deben aprender a obedecer instrucciones divinas de Dios para el bien de su familia.

Por lo tanto, una familia cristiana es una familia modelada según la Sagrada Familia de Nazaret. Una familia cristiana ordenada por Dios está compuesta del padre, la madre y los niños (esto complace al Señor). Es una familia que permanece y reza junta. Es una familia que trabaja y anda junta en la armonía. Es una familia donde el respeto y la dignidad son concedidos a cada miembro.

Una familia ideal debe tener el amor, la paz y la unidad como su objetivo. En una familia ideal, todos los miembros son felices. Entienden, aman y se ayudan uno al otro. Es una familia donde las dificultades y las responsabilidades son compartidas razonablemente.

Es una familia equilibrada. Esto es el modelo de la familia que la iglesia presenta a nosotros y el mundo entero hoy. Imploremos a la familia Santa ayudarnos vivir como ellos: “Jesús, María y José, rueguen por nosotros.”

“Cantan un cántico nuevo al Señor porque ha hecho maravillas… El Señor ha dado a conocer su salvación… aclamen al Señor, el Rey.” Hoy es el día de Navidad, el día que durante mucho tiempo hemos esperado. La Navidad es un hito en la historia de nuestra salvación, por lo que es maravilloso saber que, “Dios está con nosotros” para salvarnos.

Hoy, Dios ha demostrado la profundidad de su amor por nosotros al permitir que su propio hijo naciera de una virgen. La palabra que se profetizó hace mucho tiempo por fin ha tomado carne. El mensaje central de la celebración de hoy es la encarnación y la revelación de Jesucristo.

Nuestra primera lectura de Isaías encuentra su ámbito de realización en el nacimiento de Jesucristo, su vida y ministerio. Por lo tanto, es una lectura bíblica adecuada para un día como este. Isaías proclama: “¡Cuán hermosos en las montañas son los pies del que traen buenas noticias!” De hecho, Él, la buena nueva está entre nosotros. Ahora, nuestra responsabilidad es ser colaboradores para difundir esta buena nueva. Es la buena nueva de amor, paz, caridad, esperanza, felicidad y, sobre todo, es una buena nueva de la salvación.

Nuestra segunda lectura, de la carta a los hebreos captura, y presenta lo que Dios hizo para nosotros hoy de manera más convincente y espectacular. La carta a los hebreos simplemente nos recuerda que Dios ha cumplido la promesa que Él hizo por revelar el misterio oculto de la salvación. Ahora, nosotros somos favorecidos. Revelación ha alcanzado su apogeo hoy y finalmente, fue revelado el misterio oculto de la antigua alianza en Jesucristo.

El Evangelio de Juan nos da la sinopsis de lo que sucedió hoy, la encarnación divina de Dios: “La Palabra se hizo carne, y habitó entre nosotros y vimos su gloria.” La palabra que estaba con el Padre como espíritu está ahora con nosotros como carne. Mientras que no pierde su carácter sagrado o espiritual, ha condescendido ser como nosotros.

El asumió la carne mortal, pobre y humilde de la Virgen y de la humanidad entera. Se toma el amor para hacerlo. Por lo tanto, lo que celebramos hoy es el amor porque: “Dios tanto amó al mundo que envió a su Hijo Unigénito… (Jn 3, 16).

Debemos estar preparados para compartir este amor. Dios envió a Cristo por amor, Cristo acepta salir del amor, y los mensajeros y profetas anunciaron su venida con amor. Por supuesto, por amor, María y José cooperaron con Dios para llevarlo adelante. Por lo tanto, no debemos romper la cadena de amor.

Al contrario, deberíamos extenderlo a otros. Por lo tanto, se trata de una temporada que debemos estar dispuestos a ofrecernos a los demás. Una cosa que hay que hacer esta temporada es que, así como Cristo ha llegado a nosotros, debemos estar dispuestos a llegar a otros también.

Hoy celebramos el sacrificio. Por lo tanto, también debemos estar dispuestos a sacrificar algo por el bien de nuestros hermanos como Cristo hizo dejando su trono celestial para estar con nosotros. Así como Cristo vino del cielo para estar con nosotros y mostrarnos el camino, debemos dejar nuestras posiciones altamente exaltadas y zonas de comodidad para llegar a los humildes, a los que sufren y a los abandonados de nuestra sociedad.

Hoy celebramos la humildad. Por lo tanto, debemos aprender a ser humildes de Cristo. A pesar de ser el rey del universo, se permitió nacer en un pesebre. Hoy, lo que celebramos es la cercanía del reinado de paz. Paz no como el mundo la da, sino como Dios promete ofrecerlo a aquellos que creen en Él (Jn 14, 21).

Por último, lo que celebramos hoy es esperanza porque el nacimiento de Cristo es un motivo de gran esperanza para todos los que sinceramente creen en Él. Lo que esto significa es que debemos ejercer gran esperanza y fe, a pesar de que nuestro mundo está envuelto en guerras, odio, hambre, ataques cibernéticos, secuestros, mutilación y asesinatos de niños inocentes, derramamiento de sangre, esclavitud moderna, opresión, y diferentes tipos de injusticia.

Hoy es un día de alegría. Así, les deseo una feliz y maravillosa celebración y una temporada llena de alegría. Así que con el salmista: “Tocan la cítara para el Señor, suenen los instrumentos; con clarines y al son de trompetas aclamad al Rey y Señor.”

“Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has worked wonders. The Lord has made known his salvation. Acclaim the King the Lord.” Today is Christmas Day, the day we have long awaited and prepared for. Christmas is a milestone in our salvation history, so it is beautiful to know that “God is with us” to save us.

Today, God proved the depth of his love for us by allowing his son to be born of a virgin. The Word prophesied long ago has finally taken flesh. The central message of today’s celebration is the incarnation and revelation of Jesus Christ.

Our first reading from Isaiah finds its sphere of accomplishment in the birth of Jesus Christ, His life, and ministry. Therefore, it is suitable biblical reading for a day like this. Isaiah proclaims: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the one who brings Good News.” Indeed, the Good News himself is here with and among us. The onus now lies on us to become “partners in progress” by spreading the good news.

It is the Good News of love, peace, charity, hope, happiness, and above all, it is the Good News of salvation. The call of the prophet today is a call to celebrate Emmanuel, God with us.  It is a call to adore and worship the newborn king and prince of peace. It is a call to be joyful and take the message about the Messiah’s birth to all and sundry.

In our second reading, the letter to the Hebrews captures and presents what God did for us today most convincingly and spectacularly. The letter to the Hebrews reminds us that God has fulfilled the promise he made by revealing the hidden mystery of salvation. Now we are the favored ones. Revelation has reached its apogee today, and the hidden mystery of the old covenant has finally been revealed in Jesus Christ.

The gospel of John gives us the synopsis of what happened today, the divine incarnation of God: “The Word was made flesh, He lived among us, and we saw His glory.” The Word, which was with the Father as Spirit, is now with us as flesh. While not losing His sacred or spiritual nature, he has condescended to become like us. He did this by taking flesh in a poor, humble, willing, and lovely virgin. It takes love to do this. Therefore, what we celebrate today is love because: “God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son (Jn 3, 16).

We must be ready to share this love. God sent Christ out of love, Christ accepted to come out of love, the messengers and prophets announced his coming out of love, and of course, out of love, Mary and Joseph cooperated with God to bring Him forth. So, we must not snap the silver chain of love instead. Instead, let us extend it to others. Therefore, this is a season we must be ready to offer ourselves to others. This season, as Christ has reached out to us, we too must reach out to others. 

Finally, today we celebrate hope because Christ’s birth is a great hope raiser for all who would sincerely believe in him. Today is a day of joy. Therefore, let us “Sing psalms to the Lord with harp, with the sound of music… acclaim the Lord” who is with us. Merry Christmas!

The Grace of God has Appeared – Emmanuel

Dear brethren, this is the night we have been preparing for the past four weeks. Today, unto us is born the savior of the world. He is the prince of peace, the king of kings, and the Lord of lords.

The good news is simple; God has fulfilled his promise to his people. God is with us. Most importantly, God has shown us his great mercy and love. With the events of this night, we have seen the incredible fidelity of God to us, his people.

Our first reading this Christmas night from the prophet Isaiah’s book captures and summarizes what we have achieved through Christ’s birth. The prophet says: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. On those who live in the land of deep shadow, a great light has shone.”

The light of God that shines on us is Christ, the newly born. He is the light of the nations and of all who have accepted him. Never again shall we walk in darkness. He came to dispel the darkness that darkened our hearts and our world.

Most importantly, with the birth of Christ this night, we have begun a new season of joy, a new season of our salvific history, and a new life full of hope because God is with us.

As Titus captures it in our second reading, with the birth of Christ today: “The grace of God had appeared, and it has made salvation possible for the whole human race…The glorious appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”  Also, this night we live in a new season of the Grace which God himself has fashioned for us.

Finally, our duty during this time of Christmas is to do what the shepherds and angels did, adoring the child Jesus and singing the glory of the Lord. Therefore, our song today and forever shall be: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men of goodwill, who enjoy God’s favors.”

Also, it behooves us to spread the good news to the ends of the world. That today, in Bethlehem, of Nazareth to us, is born a great savior. Rejoice brethren, for God, has shown us his great mercy. Merry Christmas!

Queridos hermanos, esta es la noche por la cual hemos sido preparando hace cuatro semanas. Hoy a nosotros ha nacido el Salvador del mundo, el Príncipe de la paz, el Rey de los reyes, y el Señor de los señores.

La buena noticia es sencilla, Dios ha cumplido su promesa a su pueblo, Dios está con nosotros. Y más importante, Dios nos ha mostrado una gran misericordia y amor. Con el acontecimiento de esta noche, hemos visto la gran fidelidad de Dios a su nosotros, su pueblo.

Nuestra primera lectura de esta noche de Navidad del libro del profeta Isaías, captura y se resume todo lo que hemos logrado por el nacimentero de Emanuel, Dios está con nosotros. El profeta dice: “El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio la luz grande, y a los que habitaban tierras de sombras, una luz les brillo.”

La luz de Dios que brilla sobre nosotros es Cristo, el recién nacido. Él es la luz de las naciones y de todo aquel que lo ha aceptado. Y nunca más camináramos en las tinieblas. El vino para disparar las tinieblas que oscureció nuestros corazones y nuestro mundo.

Mas importante, con el nacimiento de Cristo esta noche hemos empezado una nueva etapa de alegría, una nueva etapa de nuestra historia salvífica, y una nueva vida llena de esperanza, porque, Dios está con nosotros.

Como Tito lo captura en nuestra segunda lectura, con el nacimiento de Cristo hoy: “Ha aparecido la gracia de Dios que trae la salvación para todos los hombres…la aparición gloriosa del Dios y Salvador nuestro señor: Jesucristo.” Por eso, también, vivimos en una nueva etapa de la gracia de nuestro Dios.

Finalmente, nuestro deber en este tiempo de Navidad es hacer lo que los pastores y los ángeles hicieron, alabar al niño Jesús, y cantando la gloria del Señor. Por eso, nuestro cantico hoy, y en adelante será: “Gloria a Dios en el cielo, y en la tierra paz a los hombres que aman el Señor.”

También, a nosotros consta, a difundir la buena noticia hasta los confines del mundo que hoy, en belén de Nazaret, nos ha nacido un gran salvador. Alégrense hermanos porque Dios, nos ha mostrado su gran misericordia. Feliz Navidad.

O Lord, We Are Ready For Your Divine Visitation And Encounter

Last week, we celebrated “Gaudete” on Sunday, and the church encouraged us to rejoice because our Lord is near. On this fourth and last Sunday of Advent, our first reading and gospel have one thing in common. This is the fact that from the least of the lowly clan of Judah and Mary, the humble handmaid, God has prepared a body for Christ, the Prince of Peace.

According to our second reading from Hebrew, Christ assures his Father for our sake: “Here I am! I am coming to do your will!” He comes soon to fill our hearts with his spirit of peace and joy as he did to Elizabeth and the child in her womb.

As we gradually approach the fulfillment of God’s promise to us, the gospel of this Sunday presents us with the visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. Despite her pregnancy, Mary still found time to visit her cousin to share her joy and assist her. This is proof of her spirit of hospitality, generosity, humility, love, and faith in God, who chose her. This is why she is blessed. It was not only Mary who visited Elizabeth but also the Divine Child and Prince of Peace. Hence, this visit was divine.

Also, it is important to note that what happened between the child in Mary’s womb and the child in Elizabeth’s womb was a divine encounter. What happened during this divine visit and encounter is what the psalmist describes as: “When love and faithfulness meet together when justice and truth meet; righteousness and peace kiss and embrace each other” (Ps 85, 10). Both Elizabeth and Mary felt and saw it happen spiritually.

The visit of Mary to Elizabeth was not a mere coincidence. It was a well-thought plan of God, which he executed at the appropriate time. This season, God has planned to honor each one of us personally with a divine visit. This visit is not by accident.

Instead, it is a well-planned visit. He knows the way to where we live, knows our house number, knows the number of our flat, and knows exactly the number of our room. He comes quickly to visit us personally to bring about some remarkable changes in our lives.

This season, brethren, what we are about to have is a divine encounter with the child Jesus. This encounter will fill us with the Holy Spirit, who will empower us as he empowered Elizabeth. This divine encounter with Christ will bring us transformation, and it will provoke peace and greater joy in our hearts as it did for Elizabeth and the child in her womb.

Finally, soon and very soon, we shall hear a knock at our door and listen to the voice of Mary, the new arc of the covenant bearing the divine child. They are close to us. So, let us dot all our “Is” and cross all our “Ts” to receive them so that our joy may be complete this season. As we wait for our divine visitation and encounter this season, let us implore the Lord: “God of hosts, bring us back; let your face shine on us, and we shall be saved.”

Oh Señor, estamos listos para su visita y encuentro divino

La semana pasada celebramos el domingo de “Gaudate” cuando la iglesia nos animó a alegrarse porque el Señor ya está cerca. En este cuarto y último domingo de Adviento, nuestra primera lectura y el evangelio tienen algo en común. Este es el hecho de que, desde el menor de los humildes entre las tribus de Judá, y de María, la humilde esclava, Dios ha preparado un cuerpo para Cristo, el príncipe de la Paz.

Cristo, según nuestra segunda lectura de hebreos, asegura su padre: “¡Aquí estoy! ¡Yo vengo a hacer tu voluntad!” Él Viene pronto para llenar nuestro corazón con su espíritu de paz y de alegría al igual que lo hizo a Isabel y el niño en su vientre.

Como acercamos poco a poco al cumplimiento de la promesa de Dios para nosotros, el Evangelio de este domingo nos presenta la visitación de María a su prima Isabel. A pesar de su embarazo, María todavía encontró tiempo para visitar a su prima para compartir su alegría y ayudarla. Esto muestra su espíritu de hospitalidad, generosidad, humildad, amor, y su fe en Dios que la eligió. Por esta razón, ella es bendecida. No fue sólo María quien visitó a Isabel sino también, el Divino Niño y Príncipe de la paz. Por lo tanto, esta visita era divina.

También, es importante tener en cuenta que lo que sucedió entre los niños en el vientre de María e Isabel fue un encuentro divino. Lo que sucedió durante esta visita y encuentro divino es exactamente lo que el salmista describe como: “Cuando el amor y la fidelidad se reúnen, y cuando la justicia y la verdad se reúnen; la justicia y la paz se besan y abrazan” (Sal 85, 10). Isabel y María sintieron y vieron lo que sucedió espiritualmente.

La visita de María a Isabel no era una mera coincidencia. Era un pozo de pensamiento del plan de Dios, que fue ejecutado en el momento adecuado. Esta temporada, Dios ha planeado honrar a cada uno de nosotros personalmente con una visita divina. Esta visita no es por un accidente.

Al contrario, es una visita bien planificada. Él conoce donde vivimos, conoce el camino a nuestra casa, Él sabe exactamente el número de nuestro apartamento, y sabe exactamente el número de nuestro cuarto y puerta. Llega rápidamente a visitarnos personalmente a fin de lograr algunos cambios notables en nuestras vidas.

Esta temporada hermanos, lo que vamos a tener es una divina visitación y un divino encuentro con el niño Jesús. Este encuentro nos llenará con el Espíritu Santo que nos facultará como lo hizo a Isabel. Este encuentro divino con Cristo nos traerá la transformación y provocará la paz y la mayor alegría en nuestros corazones como hizo para Isabel y el niño en su vientre.

Por último, pronto, y muy pronto, escucharemos una llamada a nuestra puerta, y escucharemos la voz de María el nuevo arco de la alianza con el divino niño. Están cerca de nosotros. Así que, debemos estar listos a recibirlos, y para que nuestra alegría sea completa esta temporada. Como esperamos nuestra divina visita y divino encuentro esta temporada, pidámosle a Dios: “¡Oh “Señor de los ejércitos! Restáuranos, que brille tu rostro sobre nosotros, y nos salve”.

Hoy es el tercer domingo de Adviento popularmente conocido como “domingo de gaudete”. El término Gaudete significa simplemente “regocijarse”. Este Adviento, Estamos preparando a vivir una nueva experiencia de amor y fe en Dios.

HOMILIES C – GOD’S WORD FROM MY HEART TO MY LIPS

Al acercarnos a la fiesta de la Navidad, la Iglesia nos anima a regocijarnos porque Dios está a punto de cumplir su promesa. Sin embargo, esto no significa que hemos llegado al final de nuestra preparación esta temporada de Adviento.

Al contrario, es una manera de instarnos a ser más enfocados y valientes. También es una manera de asegurarnos que nuestros preparativos pronto serán recompensados. Hoy, todas nuestras lecturas nos exaltan a gozar, y a ser alegres mientras esperamos la venida del Señor.

La primera lectura capta el ambiente festivo de esta temporada y así nos llama a gritar de alegría. ¡La razón es simple! Nuestro Señor viene con un montón de buenos paquetes incluso: la justicia, la liberación y la paz. Además, él está listo para visitarnos personalmente si nos disponemos bien.

El salmista también toca la misma cuerda: “Canten y griten de gozo, pues grande en medio de ustedes es el Santo de Israel”. Sí, él que estamos esperando, nunca promete y falla. El justifica a los inocentes y levanta a los oprimidos. Por lo tanto, este es un momento para que nos hagamos listos. Es un tiempo alegre y un tiempo para celebrar alegremente.

Pablo el apóstol entendió esto muy bien y así insiste: “Quiero que sean felices siempre en el Señor. Repito, lo que quiero es su felicidad.” Es muy importante notar cuidadosamente lo que Pablo dice es: “sean siempre felices en el Señor”.

Así que, la alegría que Pablo nos habla no es la que proviene de la mera fantasía o de la riqueza material de este mundo. Más bien, es un sentimiento muy profundo que procede de una fe muy fuerte en Dios. Es una verdadera alegría que brota de las promesas de Dios. Es esa alegría que viene con paz y fortalece el

En el Evangelio de hoy, después de predicar la buena noticia del arrepentimiento, Juan el Bautista provocó un gran anhelo de cambio en sus oyentes. Debemos hacer la misma pregunta que la gente le hizo a Juan el Bautista: “¿qué debemos hacer?” Esta fue la misma pregunta de la gente a Pedro después de su predicación el día de pentecostés (Hechos 2: 37 -41).

Para que nuestra alegría sea completa esta temporada debemos ser caritativos, indulgentes, justo, y modestos en nuestras acciones. También, tenemos que buscar la reconciliación y vivir en paz el uno con el otro. Sobre todo, debemos evitar todos los actos que sean capaces de dificultar la vida de los demás.

Finalmente, necesitamos paciencia y constancia en la oración. Estas son virtudes espirituales muy importantes. Estos nos llevarán a la santidad y a la plenitud de la alegría. Mientras que esperamos con alegría el cumplimiento de las promesas de Dios para nosotros esta temporada, que se llene nuestros corazones con caridad y paz mental. ¡Amén!

Be Joyful And Happy In The Lord

Today is the third Sunday of Advent, popularly known as “Gaudete Sunday.” The term Gaudete simply means “to rejoice.” This Advent, we are preparing to live a new experience of love and faith in God.

As we come closer to the feast of Christmas, the church encourages us to rejoice because God is about to fulfill his promise to us. However, this does not mean we have come to the end of our preparation this season of Advent.

Instead, it is a way of urging us to be more focused and courageous. It is also a way of assuring us that our preparations shall soon be rewarded. Today, all our readings exalt us to be happy, and joyful as we wait for the Lord’s coming.

The first reading captures the festive mood of this season and so calls us to shout for joy! The reason is simple! Our Lord is coming with lots of good packages like justice, liberation, and peace. Above all, he is ready to visit us personally if we dispose of ourselves well.

The psalmist equally taps on the same string: “Sing and shout for joy, for great in your midst is the Holy one of Israel.” Yes, the one we are waiting for, never promises and fails. He acquits the innocent and lifts up the oppressed. Therefore, this is a time for us to make ourselves ready. It is a time be cheerful and a time to celebrate joyfully.

Paul the apostle understood this very well and so insists: “I want you to be happy always in the Lord. I repeat, what I want is your happiness.” It is very important to note carefully that what Paul says is: “BE ALWAYS HAPPY IN THE LORD.”

So, the joy that Paul speaks of here is not that which comes from mere fantasy or from the material wealth of this world. Rather, it is a very profound sentiment that proceeds from a very strong faith in God. It is a true joy that sprouts from God’s promises. It is that joy that comes with peace and strengthens the soul. It is the joy of our salvation (Ps 51:12), and a gift from God.

In today’s Gospel, after preaching the good news of repentance, John the Baptist provoked a great yearning for change in his listeners. We must ask the same question that the people asked John the Baptist: “What must we do?” This was the same question of the people to Peter after his preaching on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2: 39-41).

For our joy to be complete this season we must be charitable, forgiving, just, and be modest in our actions. Also, we have to seek reconciliation and live in peace with one another. Above all, we must shun all acts that are capable of making life difficult for others.

Finally, we need patience and constancy in prayer. These are very important spiritual virtues. These will lead us to sanctity and the fullness of joy. As we wait joyfully for the fulfillment of God’s promises to us this season, may He fill our hearts with charity and peace of mind. Amen!
