Today is the second Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year A. On this Sunday, the Church presents to us through the prophetic insights of Isaiah and John the Baptist the “Agnus Dei, qui tollit peccata mundi (Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world).” One very remarkable lesson that the Church wants us to learn from this Sunday’s readings and reflection is that the Lamb of God was more than a “mere servant.” He is a son who obediently fulfilled the will of the Father.

In the first reading from Isaiah, God honored his servant and sealed this honor with a promise and mission: “I will make you a light to the nations.” The purpose of this promise is: “So that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth!” There are three basic suppositions about this promise and mission of God to his servant. The first is that His servant is a trusted one. Second, the servant accepted the message. Third, he will not keep this salvation to himself. Instead, he will take it to others.

In the second reading, Paul affirms his call to be an apostle. He equally proves that he obediently did God’s will. Also, he highlights another vital element of doing God’s will. That is, living a saintly life. One of our greatest missions on earth is to live holy lives. By so doing, we speak more volumes to those we try to evangelize. It is the will of God for us to be holy because he says to us: “Be Holy for I the Lord your God am holy” (1Pet 1, 13-16).

In today’s gospel, John the Baptist identifies and vividly presents the Saviour to the world. By this act, John has completed his mission and the will of God. It was for this reason that he was called to be a prophet. He has obediently accomplished his mission. Therefore, John is a perfect example of how we ought to approach our call and the will of God for us. All we need to do is to accept it, and the Holy Spirit will confirm our efforts.

When Jesus appeared, why did people not recognize him? Were they physically blind? No! Instead, they suffered from “spiritual blindness.” This prevented them from realizing the Saviour they had waited so long to receive. It took the combination of an anointed prophet and the testimony of the Holy Spirit to identify him. The only difference that the presence of Jesus Christ will make in the life of the spiritually blind is our testimonies. Hence, it is our mission to present Christ to others as John did: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Both Christ and John the Baptist have played their roles as far as doing the will of God is concerned. So, we have to continue that same mission.

Finally, to do God’s will perfectly, we must be in tune with the Holy Spirit. God will supply the grace that we need to do his will. The Holy Spirit will give us the power and strength we need to fulfill our mission. If we remain docile to the Holy Spirit as John the Baptist was, he will reveal all we need to know. He will teach us the best way to carry out the mission. So, let us say with the psalmist: “Here I am, Lord! I come to do your Will.”

Hoy es el segundo domingo del tiempo ordinario, año A. Este domingo, la Iglesia nos presenta a través de la visión profética de Isaías y Juan el Bautista, el: “Agnus Dei qui tollit peccata mundi (cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo).” Una lección muy notable que la iglesia quiere nos aprendemos de las lecturas y la reflexión de este domingo es que, el cordero de Dios fue más que un “mero siervo.” Él es un hijo obediente, que cumplió la voluntad de su padre.

En la primera lectura de Isaías, Dios honró a su siervo y selló este honor con una promesa y misión: “Voy a hacer le una luz a las naciones.” El propósito de esta promesa es: “Para que mi salvación llegue hasta los confines de la tierra!” Hay tres supuestos básicos acerca de esta promesa y misión de Dios a su siervo. La primera es que, su servidor es digno de confianza. En segundo lugar, él ha aceptado el mensaje y la salvación de Dios. En tercer lugar, este siervo no mantendrá esta salvación a sí mismo. Más bien, él lo llevará a los demás.

En la segunda lectura, Pablo afirma su llamado a ser apóstol. Igualmente demuestra que obedientemente hizo la voluntad de Dios. También, destaca otro elemento muy importante de hacer la voluntad de Dios. Es decir, vivir una vida santa. Una de las mayores misiones confiadas a nosotros en la tierra es vivir una vida santa. Al hacerlo, hablamos más volúmenes que estamos llamados a evangelizar. Es la voluntad de Dios para que seamos santos porque él nos dice: “Sean santos, porque, Yo el Señor su Dios soy santo” (1Pt 1, 13-16).

 En el Evangelio de hoy, San Juan Bautista identifica y presenta vívidamente el salvador al mundo. Por este acto, Juan ha completado su misión y la voluntad de Dios. Es por ello que él fue llamado a ser un profeta. Él obedientemente ha cumplido a su misión. Por lo tanto, Juan es un perfecto ejemplo para nosotros de cómo debemos cumplir nuestra misión y la voluntad de Dios para nosotros. Todos tenemos que hacer es aceptarla, y el Espíritu Santo confirmará nuestros esfuerzos.

Cuando Jesús apareció, ¿por qué la gente no lo reconoció, eran físicamente ciegos? ¡No! Por el contrario, sufrieron de “ceguera espiritual”. Esto les impedía reconocer al Salvador que se han esperado tanto tiempo para recibir. Llevó la combinación de un profeta ungido y el testimonio del Espíritu Santo para identificar a Jesús. La única diferencia que la presencia de Jesucristo hará en la vida de los ciegos espiritualmente es nuestro testimonio. Por lo tanto, es nuestra misión presentar Cristo a otros como Juan lo hizo: “Este es el cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo”. Tanto Cristo como Juan el Bautista han cumplido sus funciones en cuanto se refiere a hacer la voluntad de Dios. Por lo tanto, es nuestro deber continuar esa misma misión.

Por último, para que hagamos la voluntad de Dios perfectamente, tenemos que estar en sintonía con el Espíritu Santo. Dios nos dará la gracia que necesitamos para hacer su voluntad. El Espíritu Santo proporcionará el poder y la fuerza que necesitamos para cumplir a nuestra misión. Si permanecemos dóciles al Espíritu Santo como Juan el Bautista, él nos mostrará todo lo que necesitamos saber. Él nos enseñará la mejor manera de llevar a cabo nuestra misión. Hermanos, digamos con el salmista: “Aquí estoy Señor, para hacer tu voluntad”.

Today is the celebration of the Lord’s Baptism. It marks the end of the Christmas season, Year A. Providentially, the Lord’s Baptism comes at the beginning of the year. It celebrates God’s gratuitous call to us to belong to his flock. It is a way of reminding us of who we are. That is members of God’s great family through our baptism in Christ.

According to Catholic Catechism, “Baptism cleans us from Original Sin, and makes us children of God (CCC 1213).” Therefore, today, we must reflect on our baptism. This is mainly on how faithful we have kept our baptismal vows. Are we still saying, “I do” to questions like: “Do you reject Satan? Do you reject sin? Do you believe in one God and one Holy Catholic Church? Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God? How faithful have we been to these vows?

Our first reading from Isaiah is a prophecy about the Messiah. This was fulfilled in the gospel of today during Jesus’ baptism. The Spirit of God rested on Him and bore testimony that he is the son of God. In this reading, we see the Trinitarian God united in action. God the Father spoke thus: “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” The Holy Spirit bore witness to this by resting upon the son as a dove. They worked together to initiate the redemption of humanity through the water of baptism.

In our second reading, God extended His grace of redemption to Cornelius and his entire household as he did to us through the same water of baptism. Surprised about the love and mercy of God, Peter testified: “The truth I have now come to realize is that God has no favorites, but anyone of any nationality who fears God is acceptable to him.” This shows that the water of baptism does not segregate. It is for all who are willing to pass through it.

In today’s gospel, although Jesus is greater than John the Baptist, He allowed John to baptize Him. The most important lesson here is that Jesus tried to underscore the importance of baptism to our redemption and life as Christians. It is not a “mere sign.” Instead, it is a sacrament that leaves an indelible mark on the receiver. This is the sign or mark which God sees and testifies: “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased!”

By receiving the baptism of the Baptist, Christ manifested his full humanity. In order words, he shows us to what extent he fully identifies with us. Ordinarily, baptism was unnecessary for Jesus because “he was like us in all things, except sin” (Heb 4, 15). He was not affected in any way by Original Sin. However, as he insisted, his baptism was “to fulfill all that righteousness demands.” It is a sign that Christ was ready to go through any ordeal for our salvation. He was to seal with his blood on the cross, which he initiated through the water of baptism today. Through his baptism, he sanctified the water of our baptism.

Therefore, today the church calls us to renew our baptismal vows to God. This is important so that God may continue to say of us this year: “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”

Hoy es la fiesta del bautismo del Señor. Igualmente marca el final de la temporada de Navidad, año A. El Bautismo del Señor providencialmente se encuentra al principio del año. Celebra la llamada gratuita de Dios a nosotros de pertenecer a su rebaño. Es una manera de recordarnos quienes somos. Es decir, los miembros de la gran familia de Dios, a través de nuestro bautismo en Cristo.

Según el Catecismo Católico, “el bautismo nos limpia del pecado Original y nos hace hijos de Dios (CCC 1213).” Por lo tanto, hoy en día es muy importante reflexionar sobre nuestro propio bautismo. Esto es, sobre todo, cuán fiel hemos de mantener nuestros votos bautismales. Estamos todavía diciendo, “Sí” a preguntas como: “¿rechazas a Satanás? ¿Rechazas el pecado? ¿Crees en un Dios y una Santa Iglesia Católica? ¿Crees en Jesucristo el unigénito Hijo de Dios?” ¿Cuán fieles hemos sido a estos votos?

Nuestra primera lectura de Isaías es una profecía acerca del Mesías que va a venir. Esto se cumplió en el Evangelio de hoy durante el bautismo de Jesús. El espíritu de Dios reposó sobre Él y dio testimonio de que Él es el hijo de Dios. En esta lectura, vemos el Dios Trinitario unido en acción. Dios el padre habló así: “Este es mi hijo amado en quien me complazco.” El Espíritu Santo dio testimonio de esto, descendiendo sobre el hijo como una paloma. Trabajaron juntos para realizar la redención de la humanidad a través del agua del bautismo.

En nuestra segunda lectura, Dios extendió su gracia de la redención a Cornelio y su casa entera como lo hizo con nosotros a través de la misma agua del bautismo. Sorprendido sobre el amor y la misericordia de Dios, Pedro declaró: “La verdad que ahora me he dado cuenta es que Dios no tiene favoritos, pero cualquier persona de cualquier nacionalidad que teme a Dios es aceptable a Él.” Esto demuestra que el agua del bautismo no segrega. Es para todos los que están dispuestos a pasar a través de ella.

En el Evangelio de hoy, aunque Jesús era mayor que Juan el Bautista, Él permitió que Juan lo bautizara. La lección más importante aquí es que Jesús trató de subrayar la importancia del bautismo para nuestra redención y vida como cristianos. No es un “signo simple”. Por el contrario, es un sacramento que deja una huella imborrable en el receptor. Este es el signo o marca que Dios ve y testifica: “¡Este es mi hijo amado, en quien me complazco!”

Permitiendo a sí mismo al ser bautizado, Cristo manifiesta su plena humanidad. En palabras de orden, nos muestra cómo Jesús se identifica plenamente con nosotros. Ordinariamente, el bautismo no era necesario para Jesús porque, “Él era como nosotros en todo, excepto el pecado” (Heb 4, 15). No fue afectado en ninguna manera por el pecado Original. Sin embargo, su bautismo como Él insistió era: “para cumplir con todo lo que la justicia exige.” Es un signo de que Cristo estaba listo para pasar a través de cualquier prueba por nuestra salvación. Lo que se va a sellar con su sangre en la Cruz, lo comienza a través del agua del bautismo. A través de su bautismo, Él santificó el agua de nuestro propio bautismo.

Por lo tanto, hoy la Iglesia nos llama a renovar nuestros votos bautismales a Dios. Esto es importante para que, en este año, Dios pueda seguir diciendo de nosotros: “Este es mi hijo amado en quien me complazco.”

Today is Epiphany of the Lord which informs the choice of the theme of our reflection, Beloved, Rise, and Shine! There is no better season to ask one to arise and shine than during this glorious season of the birth of the Messiah and the New Year. This is the best time to call to mind the story of the rusty shield which said to the Sun: “Dazzle me!” While the Sun responded: “Polish yourself, and I will dazzle you!” Therefore, this season we must rise and shine because: “In His (Christ’s) light we see the light” (Ps 36, 9).

The term Epiphany is of Greek origin, epiphaninen. It is a verb with the following synonyms or meanings: “to reveal,” “to manifest,” or “to make known.” It celebrates the many ways through which Jesus has revealed himself to us. These include the events that bring to light his mission and divinity, the visitation of the Magi (Mt 2, 10-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mk 1, 9-11; and the miracle at Cana (Jn 2, 1-11). Objectively speaking, only good things are revealed, while the bad ones are hidden to avoid shame. Even when the bad ones are revealed, it is done to expose evil. They are not revealed with pride or joy.

Today’s first reading from the prophet Isaiah enjoins us to: “Arise and Shine out Jerusalem, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord is rising on you.”  This glory of the Lord is Christ himself, who has come to dwell amongst us. He is the source of all lights in the world. He is like the Sun, the source of all-natural and earthly lights. We are called to be like the moon, lenses, and mirrors that pick up the light and reflect it without diminishing its intensity or brightness. For this to be possible, we must first position ourselves on the same axis with Christ, the source of our light and life.

In the second reading, Paul makes a crucial salvific point. This is the fact that this light that Christ shines upon us does not segregate or discriminate. He writes: “It means that pagans now share the same inheritance, that they are parts of the same body, and that the same promise has been made to them, in Christ Jesus, through the gospel.” Paul affirms the scripture, which says that God allows his light/rain to fall on both the good and the bad. He allows the good to make him better and the bad to transform him into good.

Today’s gospel reminds us that Christ revealed himself to us through his stars. So, we are called like the three wise men in our gospel today to follow and adore him because: “All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord!”(Ps 71, 3). However, our worship must be sincere, like the Magi’s, as opposed to the false proposal of king Herod. It must be a genuine worship devoid of deceit. In light of this, we must offer ourselves entirely to Him. If we humbly adore and pay our newborn king-fitting and sincere homage, our light and star will shine equally, and others will see it and search for us to pay us homage.

Today, God reveals himself to us because he is good and loving. The light that shines forth upon us today is the light of life. Today the Lord Jesus Christ further extends and expands the horizon of his love to us by not being selfish. Instead, he allows his light to shine on us to illumine our lives’ darkness. The lesson today is that as Christ illumines our lives this New Year with his light and divine presence, we, too, must pass on the light. Another is that if we must get to our heavenly destination, we must continue to follow the star and light that Christ shows us.

Finally, we must not allow ourselves to be deceived or distracted. Trusting that God will not mislead or misguide us, we must continue to look for his star and light along our journey to eternity. Whenever we are confused or come to the crossroads of life, we must seek divine guidance and counsel. Let implore the Lord: Father, guide us with your light. Help us to recognize Christ in the Eucharist and welcome him with love, for he is Lord forever and ever. Amen!

Hoy es la Epifanía del Señor, que informa la elección del tema de nuestra reflexión, ¡amado, levántate y brilla! No hay mejor época para pedir a uno que se levante y brille, que durante esta gloriosa temporada del nacimiento del Mesías y el Año Nuevo. Este es el mejor momento para recordar una vez más la historia del escudo oxidado que dijo al Sol: “¡Deslúmbrame!” Mientras el Sol respondió: “¡Púlete tú mismo, y te deslumbraré!” Por lo tanto, esta temporada debemos estar levantados y brillando debido a que: “En Su luz, vemos la luz” (Sal 36, 9).

El término Epifanía es de origen griego, “epiphaninen.” Se trata de un verbo con los siguientes sinónimos o significados: “revelar”, “manifiesto” o “dar a conocer”, que celebra las muchas maneras en que Jesús se ha revelado a sí mismo a nosotros. Estos incluyen los eventos que sacan a la luz su misión y de su divinidad; la visita de los Magos (Mt 2, 10-12); el bautismo de Jesús (Mc 1, 9-11; y el milagro de Caná (Jn 2, 1-11). Objetivamente hablando sólo las cosas buenas se revelan mientras que las malas están ocultas para evitar vergüenza. Incluso cuando las malas se revelan, se hace con el fin de exponer lo malo. No se revela con orgullo o alegría.

La primera lectura de hoy del profeta Isaías nos insta a: “¡Levántate y resplandece Jerusalén, porque ha llegado tu luz y la gloria del Señor se eleva sobre usted!” La gloria del Señor es el mismo Cristo quien ha venido a habitar entre nosotros. Él es la fuente de todas las luces en el mundo. Es como el Sol, la fuente de todo natural y terrenal. Estamos llamados a ser como la luna, lentes y espejos que recogen la luz y reflejan, por supuesto, sin disminuir su intensidad o brillo. Para que esto sea posible, en primer lugar, debemos posicionarnos sobre el mismo eje con Cristo la fuente de nuestra luz y vida.

En la segunda lectura, san Pablo hace un muy importante punto salvífico. Este es el hecho de que esta luz que Cristo resplandece sobre nosotros no segregar ni discrimina. Escribe: “Lo que significa que los paganos ahora comparten la misma herencia, que son partes de un mismo cuerpo, y que la misma promesa se ha realizado a los mismos, por medio de Cristo Jesús, por medio del evangelio.” Pablo simplemente afirma la escritura que dice que Dios permite su luz/lluvia para caer en los buenos y malos. Él permite que caiga a los buenos con el fin de hacerlos mejor y a los malos con el fin de transformarlos en buenos.

El Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda que Cristo se nos ha revelado a través de sus estrellas. Por lo tanto, estamos llamados como los tres reyes magos en nuestro Evangelio de hoy para seguir y adorarlo porque: “¡Todas las naciones deberán postrarse ante usted Oh Señor!” (Sal 71, 3). Sin embargo, nuestra adoración debe ser sincera como la de los Reyes Magos, en contraposición a la falsa propuesta del rey Herodes. Debe de ser un auténtico culto desprovisto de engaño. A la luz de esto, debemos ofrecernos totalmente a Él. Si humildemente adoramos y rendimos sincero homenaje a nuestro recién nacido Rey, nuestra propia luz y la estrella también brillarán y otros lo verán y nos buscarán con el fin de rendir tributo.

Hoy en día, Dios se revela a nosotros, porque Él es bueno y amoroso. La luz que brilla sobre nosotros en el día de hoy es la luz de la vida. Hoy en día, el Señor Jesucristo extiende y expande el horizonte de su amor a nosotros por no ser egoísta. Más bien, Él permite que su luz brille sobre nosotros con el fin de iluminar la oscuridad de nuestras vidas. La lección de hoy es que, al igual que Cristo ilumina nuestra vida este Nuevo Año con su propia luz y presencia divina, nosotros también debemos pasar la luz. Otra es que si tenemos que llegar a nuestro destino, nosotros debemos continuar con la estrella y la luz que Cristo nos muestra.

Por último, no hay que dejarse engañar o distraer. Confiando en que Dios no confunde o engaña, debemos seguir buscando su estrella y la luz a lo largo de nuestro camino hacia la eternidad. Cada vez que se encuentren confundidos o lleguen al cruce de la vida, debemos buscar orientación divina y de asesoramiento en nuestras vidas. Implore al Señor: “Padre, guíanos con su luz. Ayúdanos a reconocer a Cristo en la Eucaristía y recibirlo con amor, Porque Él es el Señor eternamente y para siempre.” ¡Amén!

Congratulations my dear brethren! Today is a special day for all of us. So, happy New Year, and feast day of Mary, Mother of God. We give thanks to God for today’s celebrations, both of which are great sources of blessings. First, for the gift of a new year. Second, for the gift of a precious mother to accompany, comfort, and intercede for us throughout this year.

The title “Mother of God” is from the Greek “Theotokos” (God-bearer). Through this celebration, the church reminds us of Mary’s special role in God’s plan. This solemnity can be traced back to the Council of Ephesus in 431. Officially, it was celebrated first in Portugal as Mary’s Divine Maternity. This was with the permission of Pope Benedict IV, in 1575.

In 1931, Pope Pius XI extended the feast to the entire church. Finally, in 1974, Pope Paul VI removed the feast of the Circumcision of Christ from the liturgical calendar on the first day of the year. He replaced it with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.”

About the important role of Mary in God’s plan and today’s solemnity, the Church teaches: “Mary, the all-holy and ever-virgin Mother of God, is the masterwork of the mission of the Son and the Spirit in the fullness of time. For the first time, in the plan of salvation and because his Spirit had prepared her, the Father found the dwelling place where his Son and his Spirit could dwell among men… (CCC 721).

New Year offers us new opportunities, new ideas, and new resolutions. It is a sign of regeneration and a time of new hope. Each new year, we make new resolutions. Unfortunately, we hardly keep or fulfill them. Why? Possibly, because we are always in a hurry to make them, and consequently, do not consult God about such resolutions.

So, one important thing we must do this year is to resolve to strengthen our relationship with God. Proverbs tells: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans (Pr 16, 3). Also, as the psalmist admonishes us: Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He shall bring it to pass (Ps 37: 5). Therefore, this year we must develop the resilient spirit of Moses who insisted before God: “If you do not personally go with us, we shall not leave this place… (Ex 33, 15). Also, like Enoch let us walk with God (Gen 5, 27).

Our first reading today is a very important new year’s blessing direct from God to us, his people. It is a sign of God’s faithfulness, and His willingness to work with us this year. Hence, through His blessings, God has equipped us for the journey ahead this year. So, all we need to say is a resounding amen to this blessing and walk justly with God this year.

In the second reading, Paul recounts the incarnation of God in Mary. That is, how God took flesh in the Blessed Virgin Mary. Paul reminds us of our sonship by participation and our adoption as children of the same Father with Christ. Consequently, He also reminds us that by the same adoption, we are children of Mary, the Mother of God.

The gospel simply teaches us that Mary fulfilled her role as a Mother toward her son. She conceived and nurtured him with love and tenderness. She equally accompanied him through every step and stage of his life even till his death on the cross. In other words, not only did she give birth to Jesus, Mary helped Him to accomplish God’s plan for humanity. Through this, she presents herself as the epitome and model of good motherhood.

So, as we continue our walk with God this year, let us constantly ask for the intercession Mary, Mother of God: Oh, Holy Mother of God, despise not our prayers in our necessities, but deliver us from all dangers, Oh glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

¡Muchas felicidades, queridos hermanos! Hoy es un día especial para todos nosotros. Así que, feliz Año Nuevo y la fiesta de María, madre de Dios. Damos gracias a Dios por las celebraciones de hoy, que son grandes fuentes de bendiciones. Primero, por el regalo de un año nuevo. Segundo, por el don de una preciosa madre para acompañar, consolar e interceder por nosotros a lo largo de este año.

El título “madre de Dios” es del griego “Theotokos” (portador de Dios). A través de esta celebración, la Iglesia nos recuerda el papel especial de María en el plan de Dios. Esta solemnidad puede ser trazado al concilio de Éfeso en 431. Oficialmente, se celebró primero en Portugal como la fiesta de la maternidad divina de María. Esto fue con el permiso del Papa Benedicto IV, en 1575.

Por primera vez, en el plan de salvación y porque su espíritu la había preparado, el padre encontró el lugar de la morada donde su hijo y su espíritu podían habitar entre los hombres… (CIC 721).

El año nuevo nos ofrece nuevas oportunidades, nuevas ideas y nuevas resoluciones. Es un signo de regeneración y un tiempo de nueva esperanza. Cada año nuevo, hacemos nuevas resoluciones. Lamentablemente, apenas los guardamos o cumplimos. ¿Porqué? Posiblemente, porque siempre tenemos prisa por hacerlas, y consecuentemente, no consultamos a Dios sobre tales resoluciones.

Por lo tanto, una cosa importante que debemos hacer este año es resuelva a fortalecer nuestra relación con Dios. Proverbios dice: “encomiende todas tus obras al Señor, y él establecerá tus planes (Prov 16, 3). También, el salmista nos amonesta: “Comprometa al Señor tus empresas; Confía en él que lo hará bien (Sal 37:5). Por lo tanto, este año debemos desarrollar el espíritu resiliente de Moisés que insistió ante Dios: “Si no nos acompañas, no dejaremos este lugar (Ex 33, 15). También, como Enoc, caminemos con Dios este año (Gen 5, 27).

Nuestra primera lectura es una bendición importante del año nuevo y directa de Dios para nosotros, su pueblo. Es una señal de la fidelidad de Dios, y su voluntad a caminar con nosotros este año. Por lo tanto, a través de sus bendiciones, Dios nos ha preparado para nuestro camino este año. Por lo tanto, todo lo que necesitamos decir es un resonante amén a esta bendición, y caminar justamente con Dios este año.

En la segunda lectura, Pablo relata la encarnación de Dios en María. Es decir, como Dios hacerse carne en la Santísima Virgen María. Pablo nos recuerda nuestra filiación por la participación, y nuestra adopción como hijos del mismo padre con Cristo. En consecuencia, nos recuerda que, por la misma adopción, somos hijos de María, madre de Dios.

El evangelio simplemente nos enseña que María cumplió su papel como madre hacia su hijo. Ella lo concibió y lo nutrió con amor y ternura. Igualmente, lo acompañó a través de cada paso y etapa de su vida, incluso hasta su muerte en la Cruz. En otras palabras, no sólo dio a luz a Jesús, María le ayudó a cumplir el plan de Dios para la humanidad. A través de esto, ella se presenta como el epítome y modelo de la buena maternidad.

Así que, mientras continuamos nuestro caminar con Dios este año, pidamos constantemente la intercesión María, madre de Dios: Oh, Santa Madre de Dios, no desprecie nuestras oraciones en nuestras necesidades, sino líbranos de todos los peligros, oh gloriosa y bendita Virgen. Amén.

“Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has worked wonders.” Today is Christmas, the day we have long awaited. Christmas is a milestone in the history of our salvation. So, it is wonderful to know that “God is With Us.”

Today, God has proved the depth of his love by fulfilling his promise. The Word of God is no longer just the message spoken by prophets. It is now a human person. The Word has become flesh through the Blessed Virgin Mary. The central message of today’s celebration is the incarnation and the fullness of God’s divine revelation in Christ.

Our first reading from Isaiah finds its sphere of accomplishment in the birth of Jesus Christ and His life and ministry. Isaiah proclaims: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the one who brings Good News.” Indeed, the Good News himself is among us. It is the Good News of love, peace, charity, and happiness. Above all, it is the Good News of life and salvation.

Therefore, we, who have waited faithfully, patiently, and vigilantly during the Advent season, must raise our voices and shout for joy because the Lord our God is now with us. Today, the prophet’s call is to celebrate Emmanuel, God, with us. It is a call to be joyful.

In our second reading, the letter to the Hebrews captures and presents what God did for us today in a spectacular manner: “God Spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; but in our own time…he has spoken to us through the son he appointed to inherit everything…He is the radiant light of God’s glory and the perfect copy of his nature.” 

The letter to the Hebrews reminds us that God fulfilled the promise he made through the prophet in the past. This is by revealing the hidden mystery of our salvation. Now, we are the favored ones. That is, as many of us have received the newborn baby into our hearts. Revelation has reached its apogee today, and the hidden mystery of the old covenant has been fully revealed in Jesus Christ. Therefore, we need no more public revelation.

The gospel of John also gives us a synopsis of what happened today. That is, the divine incarnation of God: The Word was made flesh, He lived among us, and we saw His glory.”  The Word, which was with the Father as Spirit, is now with us both as flesh and spirit. Hence, while not losing His divinity, God, through Christ, his son, has condescended to become like us. What a great love that God has shown us, his people!

Therefore, today we celebrate Sacrifice. So, we, too, must be ready to sacrifice something for the good of our brothers and sisters as Christ did by coming to share in our nature. We celebrate today’s Humility. So, we must learn to be humble from Christ, who, despite being God, took our nature. We celebrate the reign of peace. That is, peace not as the world gives it, but as God promised to offer it to those who believe in him (Jn 14, 21). Also, we celebrate the accomplishment of hope in Jesus Christ.

Finally, today is a day of joy. So, I wish all of you, my dear brethren, a wonderful and fun-filled celebration this joyful season. Therefore, let us: “Sing psalms to the Lord with harps. With the sound of trumpets and the horn, let us acclaim the King, the Lord” who is with us.

“Canten al Señor un cántico nuevo, porque ha hecho maravillas.” Hoy es día de Navidad. El día que hemos estado esperando hace mucho tiempo. La Navidad es un hito en la historia de nuestra salvación. Así, es maravilloso saber que “Dios está con nosotros.”

Hoy, Dios ha probado la profundidad de su amor por cumplir su promesa. La palabra de Dios ya no es sólo el mensaje hablado por los profetas. Ahora, es una persona humana. La palabra se ha convertido en carne a través de la Santísima Virgen María. El mensaje central de la celebración de hoy es la encarnación y la plenitud de la revelación divina de Dios en Cristo.

Nuestra primera lectura de Isaías encuentra su ámbito de realización en el nacimiento de Jesucristo, en su vida y ministerio. Isaías proclama: “¡Cuán hermosos en las montañas son los pies del que trae buenas noticias!” De hecho, la buena noticia está entre nosotros. Es la buena noticia de amor, paz, caridad y felicidad. Sobre todo, es una buena noticia de vida y salvación.

Por lo tanto, nosotros, que hemos esperado fielmente, con paciencia y vigilancia durante el tiempo de Adviento, debemos levantar nuestra voz y gritar de alegría, porque el Señor, nuestro Dios, está ahora con nosotros. La llamada del Profeta hoy en día es un llamado a celebrar el Emmanuel, Dios con nosotros. Es una llamada a ser feliz.

En nuestra segunda lectura, la Carta a los hebreos se captura y presenta lo que Dios hizo para nosotros hoy de una manera espectacular: “Dios habló a nuestros antepasados por medio de los profetas; pero en nuestro propio tiempo…nos ha hablado por el hijo…Él es la luz resplandeciente de la gloria de Dios y la copia perfecta de su naturaleza.”

La Carta a los hebreos simplemente expresa que Dios ha cumplido la promesa que hizo a través de los profetas. Se trata de revelar el misterio oculto de nuestra salvación. Ahora, nosotros somos los favorecidos. Es decir, todos los que hemos recibido el nuevo bebé nacido en nuestros corazones. La Revelación ha alcanzado su apogeo hoy, y el misterio oculto en la antigua alianza se ha revelado plenamente en Jesucristo. Por lo tanto, no necesitamos más revelación pública.

El Evangelio de Juan nos da una sinopsis de lo que sucedió hoy, la encarnación divina de Dios: “La palabra se hizo carne, vivió entre nosotros y vimos su gloria.” La palabra que estaba con el Padre como espíritu está ahora con nosotros tanto como carne y espíritu. Por lo tanto, no perdió su divinidad, Dios por medio de Cristo su hijo, condescendió a ser como nosotros. ¡Qué gran amor el que Dios ha demostrado a nosotros su pueblo!

Por lo que, hoy celebramos el sacrificio. Así que, debemos estar dispuestos a sacrificar algo por el bien de nuestros hermanos, como hizo Cristo por venir a compartir en nuestra naturaleza. Hoy celebramos la humildad. Por lo tanto, debemos aprender a ser humildes como Cristo, quien, a pesar de ser Dios, tomó nuestra naturaleza. Celebramos el reinado de la paz. Es decir, paz no como el mundo la da, sino como Dios había prometido ofrecerla a aquellos que creen en Él (Jn 14, 21). Así mismo, celebramos la realización de nuestra esperanza en Cristo Jesús.

Por último, hoy es un día de alegría. Así, mis queridos hermanos les deseo a todos ustedes una maravillosa celebración en esta temporada de alegría. Por lo tanto: “Toquen la cítara para el Señor, suenen los instrumentos; con clarines y al son de trompetas aclamen al Rey y Señor
