On this Tuesday of the Seventh week of Easter, the church celebrates the memorial of a great saint, Philip Neri.

Philip Neri (1515-1595) was born in Florence and died in Rome. He lived a spotless childhood in Florence. Later, he came to Rome and after living for fifteen years as a pilgrim and hermit was ordained a priest. He was the founder of the Congregation of the Oratory.

Today’s gospel from the gospel According to John, is on the words that Jesus addressed to the Father at the moment of His farewell. It was also the last encounter of Christ with his disciples.

It is the testament of Jesus in the form of a prayer. This is also called the Priestly Prayer. After a very long reflection by Christ with his disciples, he ended it with prayer.

Through this prayer, Christ expressed the sentiments and concerns he had at that moment in which He was leaving this world, and returning to the Father. With these sentiments Christ intercedes for us before his father.

In this prayer, He expresses the most intimate sentiment of His heart in the presence of Father.  He also, knew that it was time for him to be glorified.

Christ has completed his mission. He has show us the way to eternal life. So, it is left for us to follow him if we want to enjoy it. Eternal life is not just for the future. It is a gift partly given now, and we receive it though our faith in Christ.

En este martes de la Séptima semana de Pascua, la iglesia celebra la memoria de un gran santo, Felipe Neri.

Philip Neri (1515-1595) nació en Florencia y murió en Roma. Vivió una infancia impecable en Florencia.

Más tarde, llegó a Roma y después de vivir durante quince años como peregrino y ermitaño fue ordenado sacerdote. Era el fundador de la Congregación del Oratorio.

El evangelio de hoy según San Juan, es en las palabras que Jesús dirigió al Padre en el momento de su despedida y salida de. También, fue el último encuentro de Cristo con sus discípulos.

Es el testamento de Jesús en forma de oración. Esta oración se llama la Oración Sacerdotal. Después de una larga reflexión de Cristo con sus discípulos, lo terminó con una oración emocionada al Padre.

A través de esta oración, Cristo expresó los sentimientos y preocupaciones que tenía en ese momento que estaba saliendo este mundo, y regresando al Padre. Con estos sentimientos Cristo intercedió por nosotros ante su padre.

También, en esta oración, expresó el sentimiento más íntimo de su corazón en la presencia del Padre, porque, sabía que era hora para que el sea glorificado.

Cristo ha cumplido su misión. Él nos ha mostrado el camino hacia la vida eterna. Así que, nos queda seguirlo si queremos disfrutarlo. La vida eterna no es solo para el futuro. Es un regalo que se da en parte ahora, y la recibimos a través de nuestra fe en Cristo.

Ahora creemos que has venido de Dios

Hoy es lunes de la séptima semana de Pascua. En el Evangelio de hoy, las palabras y el consejo de Cristo parecen más claros a sus discípulos.

Ahora, parecen entender lo que ha sido tratando de comunicarles a través de parábolas e historias.

Así que, después de escucharlo, le dijeron: ” Ahora sí nos estás hablando claro y no en parábolas. Ahora sí estamos convencidos de que lo sabes todo. Por eso, creemos que has venido de Dios.”

Ahora, se han convencido de quién es Cristo, y de la veracidad de su palabra y misión. Este largo discurso finalmente ha hecho una gran diferencia en su vida.

Este es el poder del diálogo. Este es el poder de permitir que Cristo nos habla. Este es el poder de sentarse y escuchar atentamente a Cristo.

Sin embargo, los discípulos pensaron que lo han entendido todo. Sí, han recibido una verdadera luz para aclarar sus problemas, pero todavía, era una luz muy tenue. Necesitan más claridad.

Aunque tenues, esta luz es la intuición fundamental de la fe según la cual Jesús es para nosotros la revelación del Dios Padre.

Así que, a pesar de su tenue, al menos, esta luz provocó una tremenda profesión de fe de los discípulos de Cristo: ” Ahora creemos que has venido de Dios.” Algo nuevo a pasado en su vida.

La sabiduría ha brillado su luz sobre ellos. Esta luz iluminó su corazón y su mente, que ha estado oscurecido durante mucho tiempo por la incredulidad. Esto fue solo el principio. El Espíritu Santo nos revelará más cosas acerca Cristo cuando llegue.

Así que, oremos para que el día de pentecostés recibamos el Espíritu Santo y sus dones, para que su venida nos ayude a madurar en nuestra fe en Cristo. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Now we believe that you came from God

Today is Monday of the Seventh week of Easter. In today’s Gospel, the words and advice of Christ seem to become clearer to his disciple.

Now, they appear to understand what he has been trying to communicate to them through parables and stories.

So, after listening to him, they said to him: “Now, you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language. Now, we see that you know everything. Because of this we believe that you came from God.”

Now, they have become convinced of both who Christ is, and about the veracity of his word and mission. This long discourse has finally made a big difference in their life.

This is the power of dialogue. This is the power of sitting and listening attentively to Christ. This is the power of allowing him to speak to us.

However, the disciples thought that they have understood everything. Yes, they have received a true light to clarify their problems, but it was still a very dim light. They need more clarity.

Though dim, this light is the fundamental intuition of faith according to which Jesus is for us. the revelation of God the Father.

So, in spite of its dimness, at least, this light provoked a tremendous profession of faith from the disciples of Christ: “Now we believe that you came from God.” A new thing has happened.

Wisdom has shined its light on them. This light illumined their heart and mind, that has been long darkened by unbelief.  This was only the beginning. The Holy Spirit will reveal more things about Christ to us, when he eventually comes.

So, let us pray that on Pentecostés day we may receive the Holy Spirit and his gifts, that his coming will help us mature in our faith in Christ. Alleluia, alleluia!

Ascension of the Lord: Christ goes up in Glory

On this seventh Sunday of Easter, we celebrate the solemnity of Ascension. It is an important solemnity that marks the return of Jesus to the Father.

Together with the Resurrection, it is a manifestation of the victory of Christ. Ascension is a solemnity that sustains the hope of Christians that one day we shall be where Christ is.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that: “Christ the head of the Church precedes us into His Father’s glorious kingdom, so that we, the members of his body may live in the hope of being with him forever.” (665-667).

Our first reading is and account of the events of the last meeting of Christ with his apostles before his ascension into heaven. Christ gave his disciples a very important instruction: “Do not leave Jerusalem, wait for the promise of the Father.”

This instruction is equally meant for us. It reminds us that before we set out for any project, we must seek the guidance and counsel of the Holy Spirit.

In today’s gospel, Christ gave a very important mission to his disciples. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

This mission is only possible through the help of the Holy Spirit. We must seek this power if we must make any positive impact on our world.

So, the prayer of Paul in the second reading is important: “May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ give you the Spirit of wisdom and perception.”

We need this Spirit and his gifts. So, we must invite the Holy Spirit to take control of our entire mission. We must invite him to inspire, heal and renew us. 

As we celebrate the solemnity of Ascension today, Jesus reminds us that we need a divine help in order to succeed in his mission. This divine help will come from the Holy Spirit.

So, let us pray: “Lord sent forth your spirit and renew the face of the earth.” Alleluia, Alleluia!

Ascensión del Señor: Cristo sube en gloria

En este séptimo domingo de Pascua celebramos la solemnidad de la Ascensión. Es una solemnidad importante que marca el regreso de Jesús al Padre.

Junto con la Resurrección, la ascensión es una manifestación de la victoria de Cristo. La ascensión es una solemnidad que sostiene la esperanza de los cristianos que algún día estaremos donde está Cristo.

El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos enseña que: “Cristo la cabeza de la Iglesia nos precede en el glorioso reino de su Padre, para que nosotros, los miembros de su cuerpo vivamos con la esperanza de estar con él para siempre.” (665-667).

Nuestra primera lectura es un relato de los acontecimientos del último encuentro de Cristo con sus apóstoles antes de su ascensión al cielo. Cristo dio a sus discípulos una instrucción muy importante: “No salgan de Jerusalén, esperan la promesa del Padre.”

Esta instrucción es igualmente para nosotros. Nos recuerda que, antes de empezar cualquier proyecto, debemos buscar la dirección, y el consejo del Espíritu Santo.

En el evangelio de hoy, Cristo dio una misión muy importante a sus discípulos. Vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.

Esta misión es solo posible con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo. Debemos buscar este poder si debemos tener algún impacto positivo en nuestro mundo.

Por lo tanto, la oración de Pablo en la segunda lectura es importante: “Que el Dios de nuestro Señor Jesucristo les dé el Espíritu de sabiduría y entendimiento.”

Necesitamos este Espíritu, y sus dones. Por lo tanto, debemos invitar al Espíritu Santo a tomar el control de toda nuestra misión. Debemos invitarlo a inspirarnos, sanarnos y renovarnos.

Al celebrar hoy la solemnidad de la Ascensión, Jesús nos recuerda que necesitamos una ayuda divina para tener éxito en su misión. Esta ayuda divina vendrá del Espíritu Santo. Así que, oremos: “Señor envió tu espíritu y renueva la faz de la tierra”. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Today is Saturday of the sixth week of Easter. We continue to read from the book of consolation in the gospel according to John.

Today, Christ give his disciple a very important assurance. They will have full access to the Father. The mediation of Jesus opens the way for his disciples to the Father.

Christ says: “In all truth I tell you, anything you ask from the Father in My name, He will grant it to you.” Yes, he means it. However, our request must not be contrary to the will of God for us.

This also means that, in union with Christ, our petition becomes effective. Hence, the object of any petition to the Father must always be joined to Christ, to His love, and to his will.

So, we always ask for things through prayer. Sometimes our prayer is answered very fast and sometimes it takes more time. It depends on God, and not us.

Even when it seems to us that our prayer is not answered, we should not bother. Rather, we should be patient, because God knows what is best for us.

The true gift of prayer is always the Father’s love. We are always gifted with the Spirit of Jesus to help us to pray.

This spirit is always active in our lives moves us to pray. This is why Paul reminds us that: “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us (Rom 8:26).

Therefore, let us always ask confidently in the name of Christ, because in his name, God will hear, inspire, direct and love us. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Hoy es sábado de la sexta semana de Pascua. Seguimos leyendo del libro de consuelo del Evangelio según Juan.

Hoy, Cristo da a sus discípulos una seguridad muy importante. Tendrán pleno acceso al Padre. Así que, la mediación de Jesús abre el camino para sus discípulos al Padre.

Cristo dice: “En toda verdad les digo, todo lo que pidas al Padre en mi nombre, te lo concederá.” Sí, esto es cierto. Sin embargo, nuestra petición no debe ser contraria a la voluntad de Dios para nosotros.

Esto también significa que, en unión con Cristo, nuestra petición se hace efectiva. Por lo tanto, el objeto de cualquier petición al Padre debe estar siempre unido a Cristo, a su amor, y a su voluntad.

Pedimos cosas a través de la oración. A veces nuestra oración es contestada muy rápido, y a veces toma más tiempo. Depende de Dios, y no de nosotros.

Aun, cuando nos parece que nuestra oración no es contestada, no debemos molestarnos. Más bien, debemos ser pacientes, porque Dios sabe lo que es mejor para nosotros.

El verdadero don de la oración es siempre el amor del Padre. Siempre estamos dotados con el Espíritu de Jesús para ayudarnos a orar.

Siempre el Espíritu está activo en nuestra vida, y nos mueve a orar. Pablo nos recuerda que: “El Espíritu nos ayuda en nuestra debilidad. No sabemos que pedir, pero el Espíritu intercede por nosotros (Ro 8:26).

Por lo tanto, pidamos siempre con confianza en el nombre de Cristo, porque en su nombre, Dios nos escuchará, inspirará, dirigirá y amará. Alleluia, Alleluia!
