¡Do not be afraid, Go and tell my brothers, He has Risen

Sometimes, we associate the night with evil. But our first reading today tells us that God created everything good” (GE 1:31). This night, is the most important and jubilant night for all of us.

It is unique among the other nights, because it is a night of victory and liberation. The simplest way to summarize tonight’s event is to reflect deeply on these words of the Exultet we heard today

This is the night when the column of fire destroyed the darkness of sin. This is the night when Christians everywhere are cleansed of their sins, free from all impurities, are restored to grace and grow in holiness.

The first lesson for us today is that, the resurrection of Christ is the foundation of our faith. Without it, the death of Christ would have been in vain. and of no significance to us. So, this is the cause of our joy today.

The second lesson is that, the resurrection demonstrates the vindication of Christ. God reestablished him in heaven as the Lord of the universe. The resurrection validates the teaching and the ministry of Jesus, as well as, our faith in Christ.

There is another important lesson for us from today’s gospel. Matthew told us that the women left the tomb with joy. They went to take care of the dead, instead, they received a new mission to announce the good new to the living. Christ said to them: “go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. There, they will see me.:

This encounter with the resurrected Christ changed their lives. Also, it gave them a new mission, and equally, prepared them for the mission: “Do not be afraid.”

This is the same mission that is giving to us today. Galilee can be in my family, in my community, in my office, in the poor, in the sick. It can be wherever someone needs to be encouraged, with a new hope. Today, the same resurrected Christ is renewing all things. This includes our lives and mission. So, let us go and tell others about him, and what God has done through him.

A veces, asociamos la noche con el mal. Pero nuestra primera lectura hoy nos dice que Dios hizo todo bueno” (Ge 1:31). Esta noche es la más importante y jubilosa noche para todos nosotros.

Es única entre las otras noches, porque es una noche de victoria y liberación. La forma más sencilla de resumir el evento de esta noche es, reflexionar profundamente sobre estas palabras del Pregón que oímos hoy.

Esta es la noche cuando la columna de fuego destruyó la oscuridad del pecado. Esta es la noche cuando los cristianos en todas partes se limpian de sus pecados, libres de toda impureza, son restaurados a la gracia y, crecen en santidad.

La primera lección para nosotros hoy es que, la resurrección de Cristo es el fundamento de nuestra fe. Sin ella, la muerte de Cristo habría sido en vano. y de ninguna importancia para nosotros. Así que, esta es la causa de nuestra alegría hoy.

La segunda es que, la resurrección demuestra la vindicación de Cristo. Dios lo restableció en el cielo como el Señor del universo. La resurrección valida la enseñanza, y el ministerio de Jesús, así como, nuestra fe en Cristo.

Hay otra lección importante para nosotros del evangelio de hoy. Las mujeres dejaron la tumba con alegría. Fueron a cuidar de los muertos. En cambio, recibieron una nueva misión para anunciar la buena nueva a los vivos. Cristo les dijo: “vayan y digan a mis hermanos que vayan a Galilea. Allí, me verán.

Este encuentro con Cristo resucitado cambió sus vidas. Además, les dio una nueva misión, e igualmente, los preparó para la misión: “¡No teman!”.

Esta es la misma misión que Cristo nos da hoy. Galilea podría estar en mi familia, en mi comunidad, en los pobres, en los enfermos. Puede ser donde alguien necesite ser animado, con una nueva esperanza.

Hoy, el mismo Cristo resucitado está renovando todas las cosas. Esto incluye nuestras vidas y nuestra misión. Así que vamos a contarle a los demás sobre él y lo que Dios ha hecho a través de él.

Today’s celebration of the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ brings us to a very important point in the Journey we began about six weeks ago. Today, of all Fridays in the entire year is the only one designated as “Good or Holy Friday.

There must be something intriguing and interesting about this, given the fact that it someone one had to be unjustly assassinated or executed on a day like this. By all standard, what is it, that makes this Friday unique, good or holy, is a valid question.

The full answer to this question will manifest on Easter Sunday. However, without leaving us completely in the dark or in suspense, a very short reason will suffice. Today, Christ paid a costly price for our salvation by offering his own life as a sacrifice.

They took Jesus to Calvary and crucified him there. It looked like a brutal act, but splendor was shining through it. Today, the cross stands as a symbol of power in weakness. It stands as a symbol of salvation rather than a symbol of curse or evil.

Good Friday puts the cross before us and challenges us not to look away where ever there is suffering. If we follow the footsteps of Christ to Calvary, we do not have to fear, because like him, we confide in God’s divine presence and protection.

So, in his passion, Christ gives us a great lesson on love and generosity. This must awaken in us a response of gratitude and serious commitment both to God and to one another. The way of the Cross is the way of our lives, which we must walk supported by Jesus, who will give us victory at the end of our journey.

Finally, today let us ask God to strength us through the passion of Christ, so that, wherever there is suffering or pain, we might see the face of Jesus. Let us also ask him for the strength we need to be a sign of hope wherever there is despair, and a sign of love wherever love is needed.

Hoy, la celebración de la pasión de nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos lleva a un punto muy importante en el Viaje que comenzamos hace unas seis semanas. De de todos los viernes de todo el año, este es el único designado como “Viernes Santo.”

Debe haber algo intrigante y interesante acerca de esto. Esto es dado el hecho de que alguien tuvo que ser injustamente asesinado o ejecutado en un día como este. De acuerdo a todos los estándares, una pregunta válida es, ¿que hace que este viernes único, bueno o santo?

La plena respuesta a esta pregunta se manifestará el día de la Resurrección. Sin embargo, sin dejarnos completamente en la oscuridad o en suspenso, por ahora, una sencilla razón bastará. Hoy, Cristo pagó un precio costoso por nuestra salvación. Ofreció su propia vida como un sacrificio.

Llevaron a Cristo al Calvario y lo crucificaron allí. Parecía un acto brutal, pero el esplendor brillaba a través de ello. Hoy, la cruz se queda como un símbolo de poder en la debilidad, y un símbolo de salvación, en lugar de un símbolo de maldición.

El Viernes Santo pone la cruz delante de nosotros, y nos desafía a no mirar hacia otro lado dondequiera que haya sufrimiento. Si seguimos los pasos de Cristo hasta el Calvario, no tenemos que temer nada o a nadie porque, como él, confiamos en la divina presencia, y protección de Dios.

Así que, en su pasión, Cristo nos da una gran lección sobre el amor y la generosidad. Esto debe despertar en nosotros una respuesta de gratitud y compromiso serio tanto a Dios, como a los demás. El camino de la Cruz es el camino de nuestra vida, que debemos caminar apoyados por Jesús quien nos dará la victoria al final de nuestro viaje.

Finalmente, hoy pidamos a Dios, que nos fortalezca a través de la pasión de Cristo, para que, dondequiera que haya sufrimiento o dolor, podamos ver el rostro de Jesús. También, le pidamos la fuerza que necesitamos para ser un signo de esperanza dondequiera que haya desesperación, y un signo de amor, dondequiera que se necesite el amor.

Celebrating Christ in the Holy Eucharist

Holy Thursday is both the day of the institution of the Holy Eucharist and our birthday as both sacramental and ministerial Priests.

Today the Church celebrates God’s wonderful gift to humanity, the Holy Eucharist. It is the spiritual food nourishes us on our journey. According to Pope Francis, “The Eucharist is not just a weekly way of celebrating our faith, but radically affects our relationship with others.”

The Eucharist gives us the grace to feel forgiven and be ready to forgive others. The Eucharist affects the life of our Christian communities. So, the church receives her mission and identity from the Eucharist.

The institution of the Holy Eucharist on Holy Thursday equally marks the institution of the ministerial priesthood. So, the priesthood is also God’s gift to the church. This means that, it is God who freely chooses who to serve him in this office. The mystical nature of the priesthood derives from the life of Christ our high priest.

This mystical nature of the priesthood reaches its fullness at the Lord’s Supper and at every Mass. That is, the consecration of bread and wine, which is transformed into the real body and blood of Christ. Therefore, the priest shares in Christ’s priesthood.

Today we must emulate the Humility of Jesus. In today’s Gospel, he chose to wash the feet of his disciples. He also feeds them, not only with physical food, but, with spiritual food. This humble gesture teaches us how to serve others.

The joy of working in the vineyard of the Lord comes mostly from serving others, rather than from being served. However, this is possible only through a humble heart prepared for service.

Jesus is the Lord, not in domination, but through the love and humility that he communicates which makes us children of God and qualified to imitate him.

El Jueves Santo es tanto el día de la institución de la Santa Eucaristía y nuestro cumpleaños como tanto sacerdotes sacramentales y ministeriales.

Hoy la Iglesia celebra el maravilloso don de Dios a la humanidad, la Santa Eucaristía. Es el alimento espiritual que nos nutre en nuestro camino. Según el Papa Francisco, “La Eucaristía no es sólo una forma semanal de celebrar nuestra fe, sino que afecta radicalmente nuestra relación con los demás”.

La Eucaristía nos da la gracia de sentirnos perdonados y estar dispuestos a perdonar a los demás. La Eucaristía afecta a la vida de nuestras comunidades cristianas. Así, la iglesia recibe su misión e identidad de la Eucaristía.

La institución de la Santa Eucaristía del Jueves Santo marca igualmente la institución del sacerdocio ministerial. Por lo tanto, el sacerdocio es también el don de Dios a la iglesia. Esto significa que, es Dios quien libremente elige a quién servirle en este oficio. La naturaleza mística del sacerdocio deriva de la vida de Cristo nuestro sumo sacerdote.

Esta naturaleza mística del sacerdocio alcanza su plenitud en la Cena del Señor y en cada Misa. Es decir, la consagración del pan y del vino, que se transforma en el cuerpo real y la sangre de Cristo. Por lo tanto, el sacerdote participa en el sacerdocio de Cristo.

Hoy debemos emular la Humildad de Jesús. En el Evangelio de hoy, eligió lavar los pies de sus discípulos. También los alimenta, no sólo con comida física, sino con alimentos espirituales. Este humilde gesto nos enseña cómo servir a los demás.

La alegría de trabajar en la viña del Señor proviene principalmente de servir a los demás, en lugar de ser servidos. Sin embargo, esto sólo es posible a través de un corazón humilde preparado para el servicio.

Jesús es el Señor, no en la dominación, sino a través del amor y la humildad que nos comunica, lo que nos hace hijos de Dios y calificados para imitarlo.

Divine love, keeps Christ going on his journey

Today is the fourth day of Holy Week. Yesterday the Gospel spoke of the betrayal of Judas and of the denial of Peter. Today, it speaks once again of the betrayal of Judas. In the description of the Passion of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, the failure of the disciples is strongly stressed.

In spite of having lived three years with Jesus, not one of them defended Jesus. Judas betrays Him, Peter denies Him, and the others flee. Matthew narrates everything not to discourage us, but to demonstrate that, the love of Jesus is stronger than the defeat and the failure of the disciples

This way of describing the attitude of Jesus was a help for the communities at the time of Matthew. Because of the frequent tribulations like the ones we are passing through, many were discouraged and abandoned the community.

Therefore, today’s gospel reminds us that, as human beings, we can break our relationship with Christ, but Christ never breaks it with us. His love is greater than our infidelity. He accepted his fate. He does not retaliate, no matter how shamefully he was treated. Divine love, keeps him going.

Today we may blame Judas who betrayed Christ for only thirty silver coins, or Peter who denied him because of the fear of the Jews. However, the question is, how many times have we betrayed him who loved us so much? How many times have we denied Christ through our words, actions and unbelief?

So, this Holy Week, we are invited in our prayer in the Passion to see how divinity hides itself. The Christ suffering, is God who still suffers the pain, injustices, greed and betrayal of his people today.

Amor divino, mantiene a Cristo en su camino

Hoy es el cuarto día de la Semana Santa. Ayer el Evangelio habló de la traición de Judas y de la negación de Pedro. Hoy habla una vez más de la traición de Judas. En la descripción de la Pasión de Jesús en el Evangelio de Mateo, el fracaso de los discípulos está fuertemente subrayado.

A pesar de haber vivido tres años con Jesús, ninguno de ellos defendió a Jesús. Judas lo traicionó, Pedro lo negó, y los demás huyeron. Mateo narra todo lo que sucedió, no para desalentarnos, sino para demostrar que, el amor de Jesús es más fuerte que la derrota y el fracaso de los discípulos.

Esta forma de describir la actitud de Jesús fue una ayuda para las comunidades en la época de Mateo. Debido a las frecuentes tribulaciones como las que estamos de pasando ahora, muchos fueron desalentados y abandonaron a la comunidad.

Por lo tanto, el evangelio de hoy nos recuerda que, como seres humanos, podemos romper nuestra relación con Cristo, pero Cristo nunca la rompe con nosotros. Su amor es mayor que nuestra infidelidad. Cristo aceptó su destino. Él no toma represalias, no importa cuán vergonzosamente fue tratado. Amor divino, mantiene a Cristo en su camino.

Hoy podemos culpar a Judas que traicionó a Cristo por sólo treinta monedas de plata, o a Pedro que lo negó por el temor de los judíos. Sin embargo, la pregunta es, ¿cuántas veces hemos traicionado a aquel que nos amó tanto? ¿Cuántas veces hemos negado a Cristo a través de nuestras palabras, acciones e incredulidad?

Así que, esta Semana Santa, estamos invitados en nuestra oración en la Pasión, a ver cómo se esconde la divinidad. El Cristo que sufre, es Dios que todavía sufre el dolor, las injusticias, la avaricia y la traición de su nosotros su pueblo hoy.

One of you will betray me! Lord, who will it be?

Today is the third day of Holy Week. The journey of this season is gradually coming to its end. Things are becoming clearer to the disciples of Jesus.

Knowing that it will be his last meal with his disciples, Christ decides to make a great revelation to them about his suffering and death. Most important, he revealed the role one of them will play in the whole process: “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”

This news was received with much surprise. Now every one is a suspect. Who will it be? They ask one another. But the culprit knows himself, what he has done and what he was going to do. Of course, Christ knew that it would be Judas Iscariot who was a thief, and jealous of him

The betrayal of Judas Iscariot will be immediate, and would initiate the great suffering and suffering of Christ. Yet, there is other betrayal that belongs to the future, that of Peter the head of the apostles. Of course, now he is full of zeal to deal with who ever will betray their master, but he will do the same thing. Though at another level.

So, the story of our salvation is full of ups and downs. It is marked by betrayals, persecutions, sufferings and abandonment. These marks are what makes this story unique and what it is.

However, the good news is that, these sufferings, betrayals, and abandonments will bear positive fruits. They prepare the ground for the good things to come in future, the salvation of humanity.

Have you been betrayed, abandoned by the ones you loved most? Do you feel lonely on your journey in life? Look up to Christ and make him your model in your difficult journey of life. He will help you to understand why. He did for you, and for all of us. If we endure like him, we shall see his salvation and glory.

This Holy Week, may we find the strength and courage to face these difficult moments in our own life.

¡Uno de ustedes me traicionará! Señor, ¿quién será?

Hoy es el tercer día de la Semana Santa. El viaje de esta temporada está llegando gradualmente a su fin. Las cosas ya se están volviendo más claras a los discípulos de Jesús.

Sabiendo que será su última cena con sus discípulos, Cristo decide hacerles una gran revelación acerca de su sufrimiento y muerte. Lo más importante, reveló el papel que uno de ellos desempeñará en todo el proceso: “Yo les aseguro, que uno de ustedes me va a entregar”.

Esta noticia fue recibida con mucha sorpresa. Ahora cada uno es un sospechoso. ¿Quién será? Se preguntaron el uno al otro. Pero, el culpable se conoce a sí mismo, lo que ha hecho, y lo que iba a hacer. Por supuesto, Cristo sabía que sería Judas Iscariote quien era un ladrón, y celoso de él.

La traición de Judas Iscariote será inmediata, e iniciará el gran sufrimiento jornada de Cristo. Sin embargo, hay otra traición que pertenece al futuro, la de Pedro, la cabeza de los apóstoles. Por supuesto, ahora está lleno de celo para luchar con quién traicionará a su maestro, pero hará lo mismo. Aunque en otro nivel.

Entonces, la historia de nuestra salvación está llena de altibajos. Está marcada por traiciones, persecuciones, sufrimientos y abandonos. Estas marcas son lo que hace que esta historia sea única, y lo que es.

Querido hermano, ¿Has sido traicionado, abandonado por los que más amabas? ¿Te sientes solo en tu viaje en la vida? Mira a Cristo, y hazlo tu modelo en tu camino difícil de vida.
